Sabaton - Uprising (English Lyrics)

On the 1st of August 1944, the Warsaw uprising took place. The largest ever uprising during WW2, the Poles that revolted numbered anywhere up to around 50,000 commanded by the Polish home army, facing a German counterattack of half that number. Though the Germans were half the number of the Poles, they were soon reinforced by divisions sent from Berlin. The Polish home army knew that it did not have the manpower nor the resources to overthrow the Germans, so they banked on the fact that the red army had just crossed into former Polish territory and anticipated Soviet reinforcements. This did not happen, the red army ceased its advance when the uprising began, intending to let the Germans crush the Polish army, leaving them unable to revolt against future Soviet occupation. Despite this, the heroic Poles fought on, continuing to push against the Germans into September and October, but eventually, the uprising was crushed after 63 days of stiff resistance and 85% of the city being levelled by artillery and tactical airstrikes.
