The resolution, put forward by Algeria, Ecuador, Guyana, Japan, Malta, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, Slovenia, South Korea and Switzerland, calls for an unconditional release of all hostages on all sides.
The word “permanent” was removed from the text of the UN ceasefire resolution an hour before the Security Council meeting started, according to the Russian delegation.
While it isn’t stated who was behind this removal, the United States was the only country to vote against Russia’s motion to reinsert the word “permanent” during the public proceedings.
