An Act of State - The Execution of Martin Luther King
An Act of State - The Execution of Martin Luther King video is being posted here in observation of the 50th Anniversary of the murder of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We need to be discussing the meaning of what we have learned after 50 years of study.
The song is based on the book of the same title by King family lawyer, William Pepper. The book tells the story of the trial that Pepper won on behalf of the King family in 1999 in a Memphis court where a jury of 6 black and 6 white jurors unanimously found Loyd Jowers and unnamed government conspirators guilty of murdering Martin Luther King. The King family had long determined that James Earl Ray was not the lone gunman in an act of hate, but rather that Ray was a patsy in a conspiracy to decapitate the unifying justice movement that Dr King represented. Loyd Jowers, a former Memphis cop, was the owner of the restaurant across the street from the Lorraine Motel where MLK was gunned down in broad daylight while in support of the struggle of the sanitation workers union for decent wages. Rather than an act of hate by a "lone wolf", the execution of Martin Luther King was a well-planned and covered up "act of state" by many rogue and racketeering operators. James Corbett's "The Truth At Last", and William Pepper's own recent presentations around this 50th anniversary of the execution of Dr. King deserve wide attention and discussion. See Dr. William F. Statement from William Pepper to Vic Sadot: “Thanks so much for the effort you and others are making in the common struggle to air the truth about how this Republic, and each one of us, lost Martin. Thank you for taking the time to put some important history into a ballad. This, of course, is the role of the Balladeer without whom much of history would be lost, especially in our time with the consolidation of control of the mainstream media. I am grateful. Bill Pepper”
The soundtrack was recorded in Berkeley by Sammy Fielding of Robot Envy Studio. The beautiful viola work is by Eric Golub. Singer-songwriter Vic Sadot is on the vocals and acoustic guitar using a gentle finger picking style.
Update: The master-mix of this song was released in December 2016 on a new CD by Vic Sadot at CD Baby titled "Truth Troubadour" (2017) – 18 songs sung by Vic Sadot. Featuring Eric Golub, Rob Sadot, Dean A Banks and Rbeast Hunter. https://store.cdbaby.com/cd/vicsadot4
There is a free download of this song at SoundCloud by Broadside Balladeer!
