Also called "pottery song" because the song was first sung by traveling potters and later by other traveling craftsmen. Written around 1844. In the 20th century, the song was also adopted by the German youth movement. Music and words: traditional, handed down orally. There are innumerable different versions of this song.
In the past, it was common practice for craftsmen to complete a journey of at least three years and one day after completing their apprenticeship.
Interpret/Artist: Wacholder
Text:
1. Lustig, lustig, ihr lieben Brüder, leget eure Arbeit nieder.
Und trinkt ein Glas Champagnerwein.
8. Schifflein, Schifflein, tu dich schwenken, tu dich hin nach Riga lenken.
Wohl nach der russ'schen Seekaufshandelsstadt.
Ja weg, wer kommandieren will.
English Translation:
1. Joyful, joyful, dear brothers, stop your work.
And drink a glass of champagne.
2. Cheers, dear brothers, who travel up and down.
Yes, that should be our joy.
Refrain;
Because our craft is depraved
The best drinking brothers have died.
Nobody lives anymore, except me and you.
3. And should someone really still be alive, the master should bid him farewell,
because he makes life difficult for him.
4. I started it in Lübeck, then I wanted to go to Hamburg.
I've seen beautiful Bremen already a long time ago.
5. I liked the Brandenburger country, especially the Magdeburg Fortress.
Berlin, the old brandy castle.
6. As in Leipzig, Dresden, Saxony, where the most beautiful girls grow up.
In the beautiful Rosenthal.
7. And then we want to board a ship and delight our young hearts,
we want to go to sea.
8. Little ship, little ship, swing around, steer yourself towards Riga.
To the Russian sea merchant town.
9. And then we want to dare one more thing and sail over to Copenhagen.
Towards the Danish residence.
10. Yes, away with masters, and with priests, emperors and kings should bugger off.
Yes away, whoever wants to give orders.
11. For we are all free people, the whole world is our prey.
Yes, so it's good and fair.
