NZ9A 20th Apil 2000 on the Overlander train
Thursday 20th April 2000 - Day 6 - on The Overlander about 11 am for Palmerston North where the train arrives at 5-12 p.m.
Jackson Browne: I’m Alive (5-01). Yes. It is raining outside of my train window. The Land Of The Long White Cloud is receiving the stuff clouds give! as we glide along in the countryside.
Te Awamutu 11-05 a.m.
The weather is not raining now.
Music: Jackson Browne: My Problem Is You (4-40); Everywhere I Go (4-36) (tape turns over so there is a 10 sec gap); I’ll Do Anything (4-31); Miles Away (3-52). Train announcement.
Otorohanga 11-23 a.m. (from Let’s Go:) While Otorohanga has a reputation for being the little access town to Waitomo, this burg actually trumps its neighbours on accommodations, services, and food. Visitors who want to spend a few days caving in the Waitomo area should strongly consider setting up base camp in Otorohanga. The literal meaning of the town’s name, “food for the long journey”, originates with the legend of a great Maori king who paused in his journey to multiply his few supplies into enough to sustain his trek. But more than just a spot to re-supply, Otorohanga offers quiet rest with tons of nearby amusement all within a few hours drive from Auckland. Music: Suppers Ready from Genesis’ Foxtrot (22-58). We only have 16 minutes and may run over into Te Kurh, where the train arrives at 11-39 a.m. As I do not have any info on Te Kurh, we will let the music continue.
(Te Kurh 11-39 a.m.)
Music: Continues after Te Kurh with Genesis for approx another 13-14 min.
