You know the dangers of obesity. You're committed to losing weight. You've tried several of the latest fad diets. You've added exercise to the equation. You may have even tried hypnosis or joined a weight-loss group.
In other words, you've done everything that health and fitness professionals routinely recommend.
Followed every rule. Made the sacrifices. And, in the process, you have discovered a grim, stark reality…
It has never been harder to lose weight than right now!
It's not just you. According to The Center For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than one-third of U.S. adults (35.7%) are obese. This tells us that obesity in the USA is rapidly growing into an epidemic.
The same CDC study says that between 1980 and 2000, obesity rates doubled among adults! This depressing statistic shows that we are getting fatter and heavier, seemingly by the year.
Why This is Happening
escarole farmOur first step in explaining this travesty is taking a hard look at the giant agricultural food growers, processors, and manufacturers (Big Agra).
In their never-ending quest for profits at any cost, Big Agra has given us the following gifts: Over-depletion of the soil where our food grows, hidden additives in our food (that practically require a degree in chemistry to understand), the force-feeding of steroidal hormones to farm animals and genetically modified foods.
All of these obscenities have contributed to our ever-expanding waistlines.
Next, let's not forget the convenience factor. In spite of the stated intentions of many people to eat healthier, the fast-food industry is witnessing an explosion of growth.
In our constant, on-the-go, connected 24/7 society, convenience sells. We unknowingly or even at times knowingly risk our health for a quick meal fix…and the results show. Want proof? Go to your local mall and just look around.
Remember this: the terrible toll that obesity takes keeps on keepin' on.
Heart disease, diabetes, stroke, high blood pressure, joint pain, osteoporosis…no matter what the condition is, obesity is a perfect breeding ground for these afflictions to thrive.
Okay, Enough…What Can You Do About It?
If you have made some improvements to your diet, committed to stopping skimping on sleep, learned to deal with stress, and began an exercise program…GREAT! Congratulations on laying the foundation for continued good health. Keep up the good work as if your life depended on it…because it does.
