Sky News host Alan Jones has called for people to not participate in any illegal protests following the scenes across major cities on the weekend.
Mr Jones assessed the recent anti-lockdown protests and said, “at no stage” has he ever “condoned anything that is illegal.”
“And certainly not illegal protests.”
In cities across the country over the weekend, thousands of angry protesters breached COVID-19 restrictions to gather in crowds demanding an end to the lockdowns.
Sky News understands more protests are being planned for this weekend.
“If as is the case, the Police Commissioner in New South Wales Mick Fuller, a very decent man, is telling people this weekend not to protest, which presumably according to the language means that any such protest would be illegal, then there must be no illegal protests,” Mr Jones said.
“That is simple.
“If the Police Commissioner is saying don’t, and, what’s more, anyone defying him will be met with the full force of the law, then my simple statement is, you don’t break the law, you don’t provoke the police and you don’t protest.
“Don’t march, don’t protest, don’t promote violence, don’t defy the police.”
Mr Jones, who has been vaccinated against COVID-19, called for the New South Wales government to show "decency and proportion" in its response to coronavirus.
"People can’t get vaccinated, even if they want to," he said.
"And we are told if the nation is not vaccinated, it won’t open up.
"So the battler is punished because of government incompetence."
