• U.S. Department of Commerce Gold Medal in 2014 for visionary work in the acquisition, production, and preservation of climate data records
‘Possible artifacts of data biases in the recent global surface warming hiatus,’ June 2015, Science
• Tripled warming trend in ocean data (favored ship intake data over buoy measurements)
• Software used to combine land and sea data was shown to be buggy and inconsistent
• Ignored satellite measurements
