This Shabbat is Toldot ‘Generations’ and opens in Genesis 25:19 with the ‘birthing’ of Esau and Jacob ~ the two nations warring in Riḇqah’s womb. Today, we will look at not only the birthing of Esau & Jacob ‘Israel’ but the end-time prophecies relating to their generations. Isaac spoke prophetic words over both his sons, but I’d like to focus on the words spoken over Esau in:

Genesis 27:40 And by your sword you are to live, and serve your brother. And it shall be, when you grow restless, that you shall break his yoke from your neck.”

In the end of days there will be a ‘season of time’ when Esau will break the yoke of his brother Israel from his neck. This will be Israel’s ‘time of trouble’ that leads into Israel’s greater trouble known as the 3 1/2 years of the ‘Great Tribulation.’ For Esau to break the yoke of his brother off his neck, would require usurping the identity of his brother Jacob ‘Israel’ and thus feign claim to the birthright he previously sold for a pot of red stew. This would be a long-term generational strategy requiring many unholy confederacies and alliances.
