In this video I carry out a synthesis I found in the book Inorganic Laboratory Preparations by Gert Schlessinger (link below) on page 95. Nickel(II) cyanide is precipitated from nickel(II) chloride hexahydrate solution with a solution of potassium cyanide. The nickel(II) cyanide is separated, washed, and then dissolved in another solution of potassium cyanide. The solution is filtered and then evaporated down to produce the pure potassium tetracyanonickelate(II) product.
