Tesla Will Leave California Due To Shutdown, 3047

Good morning, I’m still reporting on Tesla.
Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla has decided to move the corporate headquarters out of California due to a local county health official trying to exercise her power over California’s last remaining auto manufacturer.
Last Thursday, California Gov. Gavin Newsom issued new guidance allowing some manufacturers to resume operations.
Musk, who is under constant pressure from investors to hit manufacturing targets, immediately sent out a company-wide email that his Tesla manufacturing facility in Freemont, CA would reopen the next day starting with the afternoon shift, with 30% of the normal personnel per shift, and noted that any employee who felt uncomfortable returning to work could voluntarily remain at home.
The next day, Alameda County extended the stay-at-home orders county wide until the end of May.
During a town hall meeting last Friday that was streamed, Alameda County Health Officer Erica Pan said:
“… we have not given [Tesla] the green light. We have not said it is appropriate to move forward.”
So Musk was forced to put on the brakes to Freemont factory which usually employs 10,000 people. Tesla’s production is heavily dependent on the Freemont plant until the new assembly plant in Shanghai comes up to full speed.
But Musk was outraged. He tweeted out just after noon on Saturday:
“Tesla is filing a lawsuit against Alameda County immediately. The unelected & ignorant “Interim Health Officer” of Alameda is acting contrary to the Governor, the President, our Constitutional freedoms & just plain common sense!”
Then, 10 minutes later, another announcement from Musk:
“Frankly, this is the final straw. Tesla will now move its HQ and future programs to Texas/Nevada immediately. If we even retain Fremont manufacturing activity at all, it will be dependent on how Tesla is treated in the future. Tesla is the last carmaker left in CA.”

Although Musk says that his corporate headquarters – including himself – will move to Texas or Nevada, Florida residents are already calling for Tesla to move there. As one commenter to this story in the Epoch Times put it:
“Elon, Come to Florida! You’re already launching your rockets from here, it would be an easy transition.”
But some California residents are urging Musk to stay and run for governor. Musk called the shutdown by local officials, “fascist”.
