Dave Clemo- St Stithians

I wrote this song for a projected album of Cornish-inspired songs. As you may know, I’m a Cornish expat. I wrote a book about my Cornish roots a few years ago, and as part of my research read a number of similar autobiographies. In one book I came across a reference to an inscription on a brass plate in St Stithians Church near Helston. We visited the church when we were on holiday and I took some photos and video. The album remains unreleased. This is the inscription that inspired me to write the song.

No state on earth, no pomp may last,
No flesh can long endure;
But, being earth, to earth shall turn;
Of this we be most sure.
Then since our days be few and ill
And we shall pass the same.
Let us redeem them doing good
Not seeking praise or fame.
