One of the remarkable things about Casino is that it is nearly three hours long, yet it hardly feels over two hours to me. Subjective though that is, I think it is clear that the film makes great use of its time by spilling character on the screen constantly.
Shirley MacLaine has a gift for physical comedy.
Casino is one of a select group of films that I can pick up at any point in the movie and watch the rest of it. Hot Fuzz also has this quality.

Basil Fawlty is a fascinating character. He is cheap, pompous, arrogant, and rude; yet he is a frequently sympathetic character on the show, thanks to being a victim of other peoples' antics and henpecked by his shrewish wife. The show does not work unless the audience has some love for Basil.
