If your society chooses and relies on politically planned solutions to any problem that may arise, those planned “solutions” will eventually, because they must, lead directly to slavery. There are no exceptions.

It is thought that past human civilizations became unstable and failed for different reasons, too little money, too much expansion, internal corruption, etc. But, at the very core of every past civ were two primary flaws, common to them all, that made instability and failure not only possible, but inevitable.

Is our civilization on the same path? Let’s find out.

So, your society has determined that one of its morally acting citizens is doing something unacceptable. But what can you do about it?

You have two options: leave the moral actor alone or…

Is it possible to obsolete theft and slavery? What law of nature would have to be broken for each and every person to retain control over the derivatives of their lives? Well, none.

And what would it look like if you had complete control over yourself and everything derived from your life? It would look exactly like freedom.

Throughout history, the producers of property have been burdened with “common sense” counter-arguments like “but what about the guy who’s old, unable, or unwilling? You can’t just let him starve!” But what is the origin of such common sense?

Could the origin be the same source that told us that killing witches would rid us of the plague, Earth was the center of the universe, and uranium was good for your teeth?

Could there actually be a moral solution to the dilemma of how to care for those who can’t and won’t, a solution that doesn’t involve force or theft?

Has the Scientific Method failed or is it doing precisely what it is best at doing: proving and pointing out that what is being done now, especially in the medical arts, is precisely NOT science.

But the success of the Scientific Method is precisely why we have the medical tyranny, hence why we have the inability to question the results, hence why we have “The Science”.

How did we get here and can we resolve this? Let's talk about it.

What is the common usage for the word impossible? When most people say that something is impossible what they really mean is that they don’t know how to do it, they can’t figure it out, and neither can they imagine that anyone else can figure it out either.

Flying a heavier than air machine, watching the ball drop on New Year’s Eve in New York from a box in California in real time, with synchronized sound sent around the world at 186,000 miles per second, flying and landing on the Moon—all were impossible, until they weren’t.

Are Liberty and Freedom impossible goals too? Let’s find out.

It is not possible to determine that one man’s moral actions are more or less moral than another man’s moral actions. Actions are either moral or they are not.

Morality is a black or white concept; there are no degrees of morality. A moral action is any action, preferred by at least one person which does not interfere with the property of another—period.

What do you think happens when you attempt to build a civilization or community based on a social structure that penalizes individuals when they act according to their true nature? Think that social structure will be stable? Durable?

Do you think it possible to own no property yet still be happy when happiness is directly and inextricably linked to the creation, utilization, and exchange of property?

If it can be proven that it is at all times beneficial to pursue moral action over immoral action, the individual will always choose moral action. Why? Because the individual lives in the pursuit of his own happiness and it is profitable to do so.

Convincing every person of this will require no force, coercion, or trickery—all, by definition, immoral acts. And neither will it require 7, 8, 9 billion people to attend lectures on morality.

But how do we know this is true? And how is something this daunting achievable? It just takes a few interested people.

And in Mind Over Murder this week: The Lizzy Borden saga begins.

In order to structure a moral society and do it properly without force or violence in its construction or process, we must make it a scientific endeavor and base our structure on observable and corroborable reality. We’ll need to base our science on postulates, and, according to Ockham’s Razor, we should base it on as few postulates as is absolutely necessary.

But what are these postulates? And what tools can we use to make absolutely sure these postulates are true?

To discover the true nature of man, we make observations by taking random samplings of as many diverse groups of individuals as possible. We can then make generalizations or hypotheses about these smaller groups to see if they apply to all individuals.

This discovery need not be ground-breaking, but there are two things which it must be: it must be true with a 100% record of 0 failures and it must apply to all individuals without exception.

Galileo had a choice between two prevailing theories that described the structure of our solar system. It was possible to make accurate predictions about the movement of the planets and other celestial bodies, with acceptable precision, using both the Ptolemaic structure and the Copernican structure.

What tool did Galileo use in his determination that the Copernican structure was the correct one and why was he so persuaded as to go against the reigning dogma, under penalty of death?

And why is it important to us?

Morality does not imply universal goodness and neither does it imply rightness. Just because your actions are moral, that does not automatically make them rational.

So, what does it take? What is the test for the most grand goal that is simultaneously Moral and Rational?

To put it more succinctly, how can you know that you are absolutely right?

In physics, you can’t build anything based on false premises or invalid logic, so it should be of little surprise then that you can’t do it in volition either.

Our 6000 year, unbroken historical record of mass murder, torture of innocents, seizure and destruction of property, embezzlement, arson, vandalism, and fraud proves that beyond doubt.

But if truth and validity together have worked so well as a standard of rightness in physics, does that mean that it will work and work well when it comes to human action?

AH! There’s the elephant in the room.

I’m not here to disparage Aristotle—I can only hope to achieve 1/100th of what Aristotle achieved, and I have all of the modern conveniences.

So, how is it that a brilliant mind such as Aristotle’s could have made such a blunder; how is that possible?

The answer is simple.

This is the story of how the term “settled science,” is not only oxymoronic but a demonstration of the complete misunderstanding of the workings of the scientific method.

The story started long ago, but it continues today with something that has been in the news recently: the connections between depression and Serotonin. Regardless of your interest level, this is a perfect example of how well the scientific method actually does work, when it is properly applied.

In order to apply a successful standard of rightness to human action, we must first know what the standard is and how it works, in detail.

In physics, something is determined to be right when it fulfills two thresholds simultaneously: It must be TRUE and it must be VALID. We know that something is true when it is observable, repeatable, and verifiable if necessary, with the use of a non-volitional receiver.

So that brings us to the second element of determining rightness: validity. What is validity? And what is meant by the word valid?

Is there any agreement as to how to determine truth between the religions or even within the religious sects? No, there isn’t. Do our philosophers agree as to how to determine truth? Do our economists agree as to how to determine truth? Do our educators, our law makers, or our doctors agree as to how to determine truth?

No, they do not. And, we can see that, because they do not agree as to how to determine truth, we have not solved any of the social problems—ever.

But our physicists do agree on what is true. So, what is true in physics?

Do you ever wake up in a cold sweat worrying about what Genghis Khan is going to do to you? No? But Genghis Khan is infamous for being the most successful, most brutal conqueror, destroyer, and plunderer in history. So why not?

In Episode 11 of The Rational Apprentice Podcast, I discuss the meaning of the word “importance” and apply it to the thinkers, the builders, and the destroyers throughout our history—all in the pursuit of the first test for Absolute Rightness.

In order for humanity to progress, we must discover and adopt a more sophisticated and reliable standard of rightness than the relative standard we’ve always relied on in our daily lives.

That reliable standard of rightness has a long history of success in the physical sciences, it is a standard of rightness that we call simply the “Absolute Standard Of Rightness.”

Time is the great decider when it comes to who or what is right and wrong.

Can you imagine what progress Humanity could have made were the denounced scholars in our history been allowed to continue their work? How much further along would we be now had there been some method of determining “rightness” sooner—or immediately upon their scientific disclosure?

Is that possible?

Well, that’s what we are talking about in No.9 of The Rational Apprentice Podcast: “How Do You Know You Are Right?”

Have we made social progress over the past 6000 years or do we continue to be plagued by the same, perpetual problems? How can everyone be striving for freedom without a common definition of freedom? What does liberty look like and how will we know when we have it?

On the Rational Apprentice Podcast we explore the provable connections between the myriad problems that have always plagued humanity. Using the Scientific Method, we examine and reveal the tools and solutions that will finally solve them all and elevate our societal studies into an actual, integrated science: the Science of Volition.

We also have short-form discussions and practices on subjects such as: Logic and logical argumentation, reasoning and evidence, the unknown, forgotten, or under-appreciated scientists and philosophers in our history, and, of course, the Mind Over Murder case of the week.

Join us as we forge the tools of Freedom.
