Introduction, breakdown + Review of Whonix over Qubes OS (Linux based): great security/anonymity daily driver combo (Tails OS is also nice and will be on future video) privacy operating system solution for x86 machines. Both utilize mutliple virtual machines creating a highly secure machine using isolation of each virtual computer down to indivual peripherals. The configuration tools are straightforward and easy to use for those with the Linux experience to use them. It's not a beginner's operating system. But it is a private one.

I discovered my speakers unintentionally transmitting as a microphone to a few different frequencies via GQRX recording (computer/Pinetab microphones completely disabled). We listen in remotely to hear all audio the computer is playing + any sounds in the computer's room- speakers unintentionally become a remote microphone.

When the speaker volume is turned down, the signal goes down and the broadcast goes away. When the speaker volume is down, it no longer functions as a remote microphone + transmitter.

We use Audacity to clean up the audio. GQRX is used to record the signals which are filtered on the Pinetab with internal RTL-SDR. Audio processing/noise reduction done running Parrot Linux using Audacity.

We also touch on the fact all electronic devices give off their very own unique electromagnetic emissions which can act as device signatures (strength depends on shielding).

In the case of this video sometimes speaker wire not properly shielded (as is found in most PC's) can act as a radio transmitter antenna without user knowledge. Here I discovered a few frequencies broadcasting the audio live (.25 second delay for SDR modulation).

If you want to see more like this let me know in the comments! NEW: 'bug' discovered in Intel Processors allowing someone to install new CPU code. Intel processors have an extra hidden processor running a hidden OOB (Out of band) IP network utilizing the inbuilt wifi card. I go over the latest discovered potential backdoor and solutions for management engine.

Is AMD a solution here? I would say NO: AMD has many of the same problems with its own customer locked out "security" processor. I am one who believes where possible we should use hardware we have the right to see what it is doing, even if we never bother to look (open source).

While ARM is not open source, there is less risk IMHO. I make suggestions including moving routers/firewall to ARM/RISC-V machines.

I also go over solutions to disable functionality of Intel Management Engine. This includes my own personal idea, coming from my own research on IME.

Using Pinetab's internal SDR we show how to find and listen in to voice transmissions, with some examples. Leaving off from the external SMA threaded antenna port modification we use GQRX to filter, change modes, gain/squelch, and more to maximize sound quality.

We start off with a brief antenna comparison including no antenna, LoRa (Long Range Low Power) antenna, and a long dipole antenna. Showing how a short antenna can work just as well when designed for LoRa. Antenna theory discusses the formula needed to make the perfect antenna.

(You can get a Pinetab with built in RTL-SDR card from https://www.pine64.com when they become available again)

Opening Pinetab (Linux Tablet) back cover (+show tips for safer opening) on video and show how you can add an external threaded antenna port for your internal SDR. It makes for an amazingly compact SDR kit and smaller antennas like LoRa fit right inside the keyboard/tablet/laptop stand.

I show how to open and install the external threaded antenna port. After this I take a Heltec LoRa ESP32 I have had laying around and use it to demo GQRX on the screen. I show LoRa packets coming over the radio waves at 915MHz. This is my first in series on SDR using the Pinetab.

Radio can seem like magic-- and.. in some ways, it is.
From music radio stations we listen to, to WiFi we take for granted, to bluetooth, to keyless entry buttons, to garage door openers- all of these and many more use radiowaves to communicate/broadcast energy. We can use an SDR to record transmissions and broadcasting then becomes akin to "spoofing" in the ethical pentesting world. In fact much of pentesting involves radio.

We are going to talk more in future videos starting off with helping SDR users figure out how to find/receive different types of transmissions. This will lead up to data/demodulation.

Check out my previous video to learn how to setup RTL-SDR on the Pinephone. The Pinetab is basically a very large Pinephone, and I will be using it for many videos coming up to show what I like to do with it. Tutorials of course included! 8)

Listens to saved network SSID probes, offers SSID locations lookup using OSINT database (wigle). Another use is watching to see how often/which of your home devices get frequently disconnected (can be security issue as handshakes can be picked up on each reconnect). Only reports/shows disconnected devices, looking for their saved SSID's).

Frequent disconnections can become a security hazard as the authentication handshake is exchanged on each reconnect, easily picked up over the open air.

Solution to frequent disconnections is moving the device closer to the router, or increasing reception/txpower. You can also use this on the Pinetab but for the listen + lookup SSID location, you will need a 2nd connection. Pinephone is perfect for this as it has a cellular modem to perform the SSID lookups while wifi is used for a monitor/listening.

Solution against privacy concerns like this:delete previous saved networks, change router SSID. Privacy problem solved. You can also add fake networks or those very far away to add bits of disinformation to the mix.

I wrote MACtrack for my own home security system and will be adding features in coming weeks. What does it do? It listens to all nearby disconnected WiFi (enabled) devices searching for their entire saved WiFi history. It prints the client mac addresses and their saved SSID's to the screen for you. When a device/SSID interests you, hit ctrl+c. It drops you to SSID lookup prompt allowing you to search database for all locations that SSID name has been seen at. These locations including GPS/Street address are logged to a file for your later reference.

I really appreciate this months supporters who helped me get my latest order of microSdcards. If you want to read more about MACtrack works/step by step setup howto, see this posting including solutions to prevent mactrack from being used on you: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/politictech/mactrack-howto-use-it-identify-masked-burglars-strangers-outside-your-home

The best way to really learn about privacy is to learn how it is compromised. Originally I just shared this with a few supports (as a preview), but decided it could make for a great video. Now uploading the script for all followers. Subscribe (with the bell!) ! Share! Like!

Requirements: a single wifi card in monitor mode for mactrack to listen in/print out client - ssid probes; An internet connection is only needed for SSID location lookup/search feature (or you can switch modes from monitor to internet).

Recommended:
Either 2 wifi cards: one for holding monitor mode, one for internet for ssid lookup;
OR:
1 ethernet for internet, 1 monitor mode wifi for passive listening to clent to ssid probes;

This utilizes the wigle.net database we previously went over.

Solution: login to your home wifi router, change the SSID. Then delete all saved networks you no longer use. Boom, new SSID identity.

You can also add fake networks or those very far away to add bits of disinformation to the mix.

Pinephone: Starting out with (DanctNIX Mobile) Arch Linux we go step by step through the process of adding BlackArch repositories. Then we try everything out installing Blackarch's radio tools for future SDR (Software Defined Radio) videos.

This is my first Danctnix video, and I've wanted to do one for a while. I was waiting for a good idea to make it stand out from other stable Mobian Phosh videos.

This is a perfect way to use DanctNIX. I don't think any other current (Pinephone) distro is as quickly capable to become a pentesting studio as this one.

I wasn't sure how things would workout, and some GUI programs will not open, but as I say in the video: the fun is on the commandline. :)

Answering one of the most popular Linux Forum questions ever: How do I get my wifi card working on Linux? What driver do I use? How do I install it? A rundown/checklist on finding the fastest path to fix/install the right driver, to common question answers.

If you follow this video correclty (w/compatible wifi card) you likely have a working wifi card by the end of it (follow all steps in order at end checklist).

[Video made partly upon request and also happens to be a common problem- new users have no idea where to start; I try to provide a basic checklist and answers/ways to find answers]

Howto: setup/use Portsentry to detect portscans against our Linux server/desktop and/or Pinephone. We configure an automated reaction action. In this example we setup Portsentry to email the attacker's IP address to our 3rd party domain (outside party) email address.

Many email providers only accept fully qualified domains to/from but you can still set our email to other local domain servers on your network. If you don't have another machine to accept email, send it to a discreet username on the same machine (giving you the ip address of your attack attempt).

My 3rd video in my Nextcloud as a .onion Tor Hidden Service where you host/control your own cloud, encryption, multiple proxy hops away from the server. A great way to collaborate with others and use file storage/sharing, satellite maps and much more. I show a presentation I made on the problems with most Clouds and how this option is superior in many ways. Most importantly, I cover the configuration needs for those who want to protect the server IP address.

Start to finish walkthrough flashing/installing/setting Pinephone with full disk encryption using Mobian installer image (Debian Linux Mobile) and Jumpdrive.

About full disk encryption:
* disk is at fully encrypted state when the device is off.
* Disk encryption protects the integrity of your data
* Prevents others from modifying that encrypted data (unless you unlock it for them)

You can find Jumpdrive here:
https://github.com/dreemurrs-embedded/Jumpdrive

Find the Mobian Pinephone Full Disk Encryption (FDE optional) image seen in video here:
https://images.mobian-project.org/pinephone/installer/

Added credits: Mobian credits the PostmarketOS team with much work to get the Mobian FDE (Full Disk Enc) installer you see in this video.

If the setup sounds too technical for you and you want a ready to go Pi Nextcloud Hidden Service Box w/above features (one you just plug it in to host from your Cable/DSL home connection: no firewall changes needed for hidden service in most cases), send an email to righttoprivacy[at]tutanota.com and I will be happy to put one together for you. [Partly w/go towards donations to underlying software as both are invaluable services].

Setup Tor Socks v5 Proxy on Firefox/other browsers to protect your IP address- Then use secondary browsers for your identity related accounts. Can be done for any app allowing socks v5 proxy settings. Using Pinephone running Firefox on Mobian Linux but works same for any OS/hardware. Showcasing new closing app Phosh updates. [a good option for those w/out access to official Tor browser]

Each time an application is opened on a Apple/Mac computer, that application hash is sent in cleartext along w/other identifying information over the internet. This can be picked up by anyone watching that computer's/network line, and can be used to profile users as journalists, etc. Even more concerning are recent trends to prevent the blocking of these privacy violations...

# Install Axolotl (How I did it- running axolotl now):
sudo apt update && sudo apt install golang nodejs npm mercurial python qmlscene
go get -d github.com/nanu-c/axolotl
cd $(go env GOPATH)/src/github.com/nanu-c/axolotl
go mod download

cd axolotl-web
# npm sass does not support arm64 so we need to rebuild it
npm rebuild node-sass
# npm install tends to crash phosh; a restart of mobian is helpfull before the next steps
npm install
npm run build

cd ..
mkdir -p build/linux-arm64/axolotl-web
env GOOS=linux GOARCH=arm64 go build -o build/linux-arm64/axolotl .
cp axolotl-web/dist build/linux-arm64/axolotl-web -r

# Then after the above use nano to edit/create desktop shortcut:
sudo nano /usr/share/applications/axolotl.desktop

# Into the above file add this:
[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Name=Axolotl
GenericName=Signal Chat Client
Path=/home/mobian/go/src/github.com/nanu-c/axolotl/build/linux-arm64/

# Save the file. After this you should have a Signal clone on Phosh :)

Quick, easy guide to creating your own .onion address hidden service for ssh server (or any service) access- Benefit: Extra security features and is not accessible to hackers on the standard web "Dark web" only (I hate using that word).

IMPORTANT: Do not forget to still block ssh outside 127.0.0.1 (localhost). Only ssh from localhost/127.0.0.1 needs to be open. If you need help with this leave a comment below.
