When "Rona" induced boredom prompted another dive into the archives ,I came across this little golden nugget right here.
It’s the Methodmag v2.3 version of the Ästhetiker South Park Jam Gerlitzen 2001 (the date is a wild guess but I think I’m on the
right track, and no I can’t be arsed to look it up).
Featuring an all star cast of the day, and a bunch of Ästhetikers. I have found the original file without the name tags and graffix

Now we’re onto 2002 ( I’ve not found the rest of 2001 yet, but one day I will ) and kick off with Mute week Mega Roller session. not so many people in this video because it was the first week of Mega Roller and what happens at Mega Roller stays at M……… sorry!, It was a pretty intimidating thing to look at and not so many riders were keen to be the fist to see if it was doable. I can’t imagine what it feels like to aproach it at 60+kmh. Crazy shit!

Delving into the archives this week, out came this, featured in MethodMag v3.1 it’s the Hemsedal Spring Session from 2002, a few standout memories sprung to mind,
a. Fuck! Norway is really expensive!
b. Now we have drones and don’t have to strap camera dudes like Justin Hostynek to the outside of Helicopters.
c. My first chance to ride a sled into the Norwegian outback looking for spots.
d. Almost dieing of hyperthermia filming the mega jump for 2+ hrs @midnight ontop of a ski lift pylon, while the heli downwash flies by every 10 mins. I literally could not grip the ladder with my hands on the way down, carrying shitloads of camera gear on my back. I know, it sounds like nothing right? try it, I nearly shat my pants!
e. Terje did a few follow cams of DCP using my Canon XL1 (it’s not a fucking GoPro kids, it’s a 3grand 2kg brick) max respect for not dropping it, thanks Terje.

Here’s a proper treat for you from way back when,
It’s my coverage from the “Backyard Snow Shoes Camp” one of the only Backcountry focused snowboard camps to exist at the time. It took place in and around the Mountain Alm Guest house owned/run by Gigi’s uncle (Thanks a lot Gebi Gerhardt). Set deep in the Vorarlberg backcountry and organised by the Pirate Movie Productions main camera dude Flo Eckhardt. Access to the Hut during the winter was either by 4x4 †o just beyond the snow line then by skidoo shuttle for the remaining few klm, or you can ride the lift to the top of Damüls then a hike over the ridge. Once your there it’s one of the most beautiful parts of Vorarlberg and I for one couldn’t think of a better place to run a backcountry / backyard snowboard camp out of. This edit appeared in MethodMag v2.3.

Have I got a treat for you today, The gnarliest slam section I ever had the pleasure to shoot and edit. This video was my favourite of all the SPC55 videos (and I made a lot of ‘em). In fact I was requested to post it a couple of years ago by one of my my ol’ SPC survivor friends, was it Henri Jackson or Tom Kingsnorth? (I can’t remember which) but I couldn’t find it at the time, so now it’s surfaced I better get it up there before I loose it again!

Set in Stubai It appeared in the v3.1 issue of MethodMag and was pretty much a pick of the best bits from the weekly SPC55 camp videos from that summer. 2002. I do remember getting a lot of complaints for this edit because I put the slam section (which is a particularly gnarly one) at the begining, I was bored with same old “put it at the 2/3rds mark before the ender” model, so suck it up pettle and enjoy the action!

Hey Y’all,
Today we’re going back, waay back to the early Method Mag days, back to the beginning of the century,
I was putting this SPC advert together ready for Method Mag v2.3, and I remember voicing my concerns
to Drew Stevenson about the objectification of women and should we be using tits to sell a snowboard
camp to teenage kids blah blah etc etc.
Klaus “Captain Kaos” Marco had just hired two strippers to bare their all, wave their tops in the air and
jiggle their bits either side of a cheering crowd of SPC Staff, campers and assorted rabble.
These days these things don’t seem to bother me quite so much, maybe I’ve chilled out a bit in the last
couple of decades, maybe I’ve gone and lost my moral compass, or maybe we’ve all been desensitized
to the sex and violence we’re continuously exposed to on screens in games and on the front of daily
tabloids, pretty much rammed down our throats.
When we shot this ad, I did actually meet the girls, I even gave them a lift from their hotel to the
scene of the crime, and I also know how much they got paid for a couple of hrs work. It was
considerably more than I was getting for shooting snowboarding at the camp all week, ( I was
the SPC video guy and I made a mini movie every week, about the week, then we’d take over the
Mayrhofen cinema for the farewell party and project the results to the departing campers., rinse and repeat!)
So here’s the disclaimer - If you object to the only 2 women among a crowd of 50 or so testosterone fueled,
leering, cheering snowboarding miss-fits then please watch another video, this ones Not for you.
If on the other hand you don’t object, in-fact you love the odd clip containing jiggling juggs,
then go ahead watch it.
All sexism aside, I think it was done in best possible taste, and they are very fine specimens.
The snowboarding’s not too shabby either, Marc Andre Tarte hitting the 45m mega jump in a
very nice baby blue dinner jacket @ SPC55 Stubai Glacier 2001.
