This show is quirky, but strangely enough it’s not annoying like other quirky shows I’ve seen in the past. I think this is because this is to be expected from the dude who made Regular Show. Once you establish something is going to be a certain way, you adjust your expectations accordingly and I ended up enjoying it.

Is it my favorite thing in the world? No, but it seems to be shaping up to be one of those really great “background” shows that you watch so many times in a row you can just play it in the background to keep yourself company.

Has my opinion changed on Kipo? Kinda. Not really, but kinda. It still has my chief complaint of Kipo not being a compelling protagonist, but I believe that season 2 makes up for this by making Scarlemagne a fascinating character. And since he’s the villain, it makes it all the better that he’s made so well. He is definitely the saving grace of season 2 as far as I’m concerned.

Zuko is the best character of the franchise because he’s the character that goes through the most struggle and growth on screen. Sure, there are characters who have bigger problems, like Aang and the whole “save the world by the end of summer” thing, but Zuko’s struggle is internal, which, as far as I’m concerned, is more visceral and more interesting to watch unfold.

Few shows have reached the level of polish like A:TLA have, and the world is better for it.

The Willoughby’s is one of those Netflix movies that’s a bit weirder than others. I found the plot to be heavily convoluted at times, but the characters more than made up for it. It just goes to show how much good character writing can save even a weak plot structure.

Ultimately I enjoyed this series despite the many controversies surrounding it. Yes, it had its weak points, and frankly I never really cared about the good guys. I was mainly there for Catra, Scorpia, sometimes Entrapta, and basically the rest of the villain crowd. If there’s one thing this series did right as far as entertaining me, it’s making compelling villains.

The Owl House ended up being a Disney cartoon I enjoyed more than I thought I would. It has a lot more going for it than I anticipated, particularly with how well the characters interact with one another, which is always a good thing in my book.

Was Onward good? Yeah, for the most part. Some parts of it felt a bit corny and underwhelming, but fortunately that was mostly in the beginning parts. Once the plot picked up it drastically improved.

And I gotta say that the ending of the movie was my favorite part because the payoff of the whole setup was executed beautifully. They could’ve cheated us out of something good and I’m glad they didn’t. They actually gave us a meaningful end and I’m most happy about that.

Onward, Disney Pixar’s latest animated film, will come upon us in two days time … so I figured I would pre-judge it and give my thoughts on it before actually seeing it, like a good internet personality!

Yes, yes, I’m judging a book by its cover, as they say. But I’m doing this because I generally love Pixar movies and I have a feeling that I’ll at the very least enjoy myself with this one.

I do plan on seeing the movie and I will give my thoughts on it afterward, but right now I just want to chat about it, draw some fanart, and do a bit of a crossover joke with the main characters since Chris Pratt and Tom Holland play the characters and they both played Star Lord and Spiderman respectively in the MCU.

“Hey Arnold” is one of the deepest shows I remember watching from my childhood. Looking back as an adult I’m impressed with some of the stories they were able to tell and some of the characters that populated the show.

Every review of "Hey Arnold" I've seen on YouTube or elsewhere always has something good and interesting to say about Helga, so you can see that as a testament to the strength of her character.

TL;DR I moved to a new place in LA that’s better than the old place, so that’s been taking up most of my time. Secondly, I’ve been cooking up a new cartoon idea that’s not Meanie in Happyland that I’m going to try and shop around at some smaller studios. In the meantime, I’ll be truckin’ along as per usual.

Why 300 of all things? Because it’s funny, first off. Secondly because Irwin as a Spartan is the last thing anyone would imagine him as. This is actually a recreation of an old Deviant art pic I made many many moons ago. I figured it would be fun to give it another crack to see how I can improve it or change it or whatever.

As far as the “drawing inspiration” part of this whole fiasco, Grim Adventures is one of those darkly weird shows that I’ve always admired. I’ve said it many times before, but dark comedy is my favorite comedy, and Grim Adventures does that dark comedy quite well, and in quite a zany way, so there’s that to admire.

And what of Irwin? I just like him. Despite him being relegated to the butt of the joke more often than not, he still has a ton of swagger and a great bit of tenacity that I can’t help but respect.

It is All Hallow’s Eve Eve, so I figured that this week’s speedpaint should be something extra special and extra spooky, and dare I say … creepy. So without further ado, let us discuss the one and only French pyromaniac corpse-obsessed goth waifu extraordinaire: Creepy Susie!

Creepy Susie is one of many goth chick characters that have pervaded the airwaves of cartoons as of late, but I believe her to be unique amongst many of these girls for several reasons.

One of these reasons is the fact that she doesn’t conduct herself with the same snippy confident air that others do. Think of Wednesday Addams for example: she’s creepy and kooky, but she doesn’t seem to mind. In fact, the whole point of the Addams family is that they’re perfectly happy the way they are despite being strange.

This is somewhat common amongst the archetypal cartoon goth girl, but Creepy Susie doesn’t give off this same vibe. And it a way, it’s refreshing and captivating in its own right.

On today’s exciting episode of Drawing Inspiration I’ll be drawing the one and only Tak from the insane murderfest-turned-children’s cartoon: Invader Zim!

Invader Zim is another one of those shows that’s so unique that I haven’t seen anything like it before or since. It was an amazing show that ended too soon … and then the movie landed on Netflix, and man, talk about an upgrade.

Enter The Florpus was better than the original run of the show, and I loved the show, so seeing it only improved warmed my blackened heart something fierce.

And then there’s Tak, my favorite one-off character. Dib is my favorite character in the show, but if Tak were a recurring character, she’d beat out even Dib. I love everything about her. Her ambition, her pathological obsessiveness, her bizarre maniacal laughter, she’s just fun to watch on screen and is worthy of a speedpaint.

In today’s episode of drawing inspiration, I’m going to be talking about my favorite cartoon show of the Cartoon Network’s Cartoon Cartoon era.

Ed Edd n Eddy is a show that was very important to me during my childhood. It is a show that has never been seen before or since.
It has such a unique and fantastic feel to it, from the art style to the writing, that I’ve yet to see anything that has come close to it.

I hope to one day make a show that comes even close to being as stunningly unique, effervescent, and timeless as Ed Edd n Eddy. And if I can’t do that, then at the very least I hope to make a character that can drive a plot and look good doing it nearly as well as Eddy can.

There’s no doubt in my mind that Scooby Doo as a series has proven itself to be timeless. It’s been around a lot longer than I’ve been alive, and I don’t doubt that it’ll outlive me as well.

And within Scooby Doo, Velma herself has proven to be arguably the most versatile character of the series. Not only has she been “the smart one”, but she’s also had a plethora of different personality quirks manifest over the years. From shy and awkward nerd to vindictive and bitter sass queen, it seems that there are many interesting layers to Velma, and that alone makes her my favorite character of the show.

So Happy 50th anniversary, Mystery Inc. And Happy 50th anniversary to you too, Velma!

Disenchantment is a show near and dear to my heart … and I know I say that about a lot of shows, but for this one it has a very specific near-and-dear position in my heart. The reason being that I wish to make a show rather similar to it, so I have a vested interest in its success.

Because if Disenchantment can find a loving audience, it gives me hope that my own works can find a loving audience of their own. And ain’t that what all creatives wish to have in this crazy merry-go-round we call life?

Here I return to the scene of the crime of my first video to chat about my first year on youtube. It’s been quite a wild ride with many experimentations being done, but I’ve had a great time so far.
