Talking potatoes in this video precious, and how to properly maintain them for best results. We discuss different techniques to try and avoid blight in your potato crop and what can cause rot. We also have a Gape Worm update (don't worry only good things), and some garden progress.

A couple reasons we like growing potatoes are they seem to be easy to grow and are very hardy. They keep a long time if stored properly and can be a staple food in a survival situation. Other than that, one of the BIGGEST reasons we grow them is to feed our Mealworms. We have a few Mealworm farms going that help feed our chickens, with the ultimate goal being a fully enclosed loop with the potatoes feeding the Mealworms, the Mealworms feeding the Chickens, and the Chickens feeding us. Granted, we can't just eat eggs all day with nothing else, but it would be a big part of our nutrition everyday. We work with what we have :). If yall are interested in what we do with our Mealworms I will do a more in-depth video on that later. Ultimately we want to have our chickens on a free-range, Mealworm, plus Kale and other veggies, type diet. That's the goal, and that's what we're working on.

If you have any questions regarding anything in the video please don't hesitate to comment below and I can try to help out.

I always keep a journal of the garden progress, planting dates, what did well, what didn't, companions, etc., but this year I wanted to add a video element to the mix. This is one of the main reasons for starting this channel, so I can go come back next year, or any year after, and see the progress in video form.

Action is the enemy of anxiety. Remember, if you're feeling anxious about food or growing veggies, etc., take action, get at it, squash that feeling. Even just starting with one potato, taking action and growing something can help with that feeling.

Thanks again for watching and have a good weekend :)

In this video we finally get a chance to take you on a tour of our urban homestead. The weather has finally let up and we can get out side to film! Join us as we show you around or little urban homestead and see some of the family.

We go in for a full tour in this video of everything we have set up so far. Garden area with raised beds, food forest area with bushes and fruit trees, chicken coop and chicken area, green house, etc. We also quickly go over what kind of drip irrigation we use in our garden (a more detailed video on that will be coming soon), and how we maximize the space in our small urban homestead.

Our house is on less than .25 acre. It's really just a semi-big yard in the city, with an emphasis on semi. To be more exact our lot is somewhere around 9,000 sq ft, minus the house of course. We aren't working with much but that is the beauty of urban homesteading, you work with what you have. Some really good tips in this video on how to maximize the production on your urban homestead.

Thanks for watching! If you have any questions or want to see anything in future please let me know in the comments.
