In this video we look at the bare essentials for getting started with the Logos Bible Software suite.

In this video we dig into using the Logos Library resource tabs and a few important tools that will help take your study of God’s word even deeper. My screen-cast software does not capture the drop-down menus in Logos, so there will be no visual representation of these menus in this video, however, if you follow along in your Logos app, you should be able to track with me without many problems.

In John’s first movement, he explains how Christians experience eternal life in fellowship with joy, and to do that he begins with the nature of God. He shows that God’s nature is holy and entirely separate from all darkness; there’s no shadow of deception or unrighteousness in the nature of God’s being.

The holiness of God then presents the first obstacle to human fellowship and joy in his presence.

• How can fallen humans experience real fellowship with a God in whom there is no darkness?

• How can fallen humans rejoice in the presence of a God who fundamentally opposes their sin?

John then dismantles three false solutions to this problem:

1. To ignore the holiness of God and try to have fellowship with him while living in darkness

2. To ignore our fallen human nature and deceive ourselves into thinking we are without sin

3. To deny our fallen nature altogether and reject the idea that we have sin

These are false solutions to the problem of God’s holiness.

Now we are going to hear God’s solution for restoring fellowship between the fallen human race and our holy God.

The three primary theses of this movement are as follows:

1. We come to God through the sacrifice and mediatorship of Christ

2. Love for God is expressed by living out his word

3. God’s original command is now realized in our lives because of Christ in us

In this video we begin studying the first movement of John's discourse about eternal life, joy, and fellowship with God. This lesson is going to begin with the nature of God so that we can understand the means by which our fellowship with God may be restored, the criteria by which our joy may be made complete in him, and how we may experience true life!

In this video we begin our study of John's first epistle, which unfolds the words of life so that we may fellowship with God our Father and his Son Jesus Christ as one body.

I'm excited to begin this series because John's first epistle is written for Christians who are joyless and feel like Christ is far away from them. The words of life that John unfolds here are meant to build the believer up in their faith so that they can attain assurance of their salvation in Jesus Christ!

This video serves as the introduction to our series on 1st John, and examines John's all-important prologue, which lays out the themes that he will develop across his first epistle.

NOTE: Please bear with some of my ppt issues as I get used to recording power point presentations on here.

Philippians 3:15–16 (CSB) — 15 Therefore, let all of us who are mature think this way. And if you think differently about anything, God will reveal this also to you. 16 In any case, we should live up to whatever truth we have attained.

In this video we are going to look at Paul's instructions for how to handle disagreements among Christians who have different perspectives from our own.

There are many strongly opinions given on the subject of drinking, but what does God say about drinking? In this video we're going to cut through the many human traditions on this subject and look at what the Old Testament says about drinking.

So, let’s attune our ears to hear and amend our beliefs to the faith delivered to us by the word of God.

This lesson examines Jesus' words to the Ephesian church, who had abandoned their first love and were now being driven by other things in their view. Our aim in this lesson is to identify what their first love was and what it meant to abandon their first love.

Revelation 2:1–7 (CSB) — 1 “Write to the angel of the church in Ephesus: Thus says the one who holds the seven stars in his right hand and who walks among the seven golden lampstands: 2 I know your works, your labor, and your endurance, and that you cannot tolerate evil people. You have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not, and you have found them to be liars. 3 I know that you have persevered and endured hardships for the sake of my name, and have not grown weary. 4 But I have this against you: You have abandoned the love you had at first. 5 Remember then how far you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. Otherwise, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent. 6 Yet you do have this: You hate the practices of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate. 7 “Let anyone who has ears to hear listen to what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.

This short video looks at 1st Corinthians 3:1-9 examines the worldly mind of sectarianism / denominationalism.

1 Corinthians 3:1–9 (CSB) — 1 For my part, brothers and sisters, I was not able to speak to you as spiritual people but as people of the flesh, as babies in Christ. 2 I gave you milk to drink, not solid food, since you were not yet ready for it. In fact, you are still not ready, 3 because you are still worldly. For since there is envy and strife among you, are you not worldly and behaving like mere humans? 4 For whenever someone says, “I belong to Paul,” and another, “I belong to Apollos,” are you not acting like mere humans? 5 What then is Apollos? What is Paul? They are servants through whom you believed, and each has the role the Lord has given. 6 I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. 7 So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. 8 Now he who plants and he who waters are one, and each will receive his own reward according to his own labor. 9 For we are God’s coworkers. You are God’s field, God’s building.

Ephesians 4:11–15 (CSB) — 11 And he himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, 12 equipping the saints for the work of ministry, to build up the body of Christ, 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of God’s Son, growing into maturity with a stature measured by Christ’s fullness. 14 Then we will no longer be little children, tossed by the waves and blown around by every wind of teaching, by human cunning with cleverness in the techniques of deceit. 15 But speaking the truth in love, let us grow in every way into him who is the head—Christ.

This video examines one of the spiritual disciplines that will have the most profound impact on your faith: the knowledge of Christ. Here are some keys to growing in the knowledge of Christ so that you can know him deeply.

Psalm 119:130 (NASB95) — 130 The unfolding of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple.

2 Corinthians 4:6 (CSB) — 6 For God who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of God’s glory in the face of Jesus Christ.

Here's the basic discipline:

Every morning fiercely defend 30 minutes of your morning and set aside that time to read in the Old Testament so that God can speak into your life, and then reciprocate by lifting your soul to your heavenly Father in prayer!

Every afternoon take time to refocus your mind on Christ by reading from Psalms or Proverbs while you are on lunch, riding the bus, or taking a work-break. Then lift your soul to God in prayer!

Every evening fiercely defend 30 minutes of your night and set aside that time to read in the New Testament so that God can speak into your life, and then reciprocate by lifting your soul to your heavenly Father in prayer!

Until next time, may Christ captivate!
