China refuses CDC Aid amidst coronavirus outbreak.

China spurned CDC offer to send team to help contain coronavirus says US Health Secretary.

Top U.S. health officials this week provided further details on the nation's "coordinated public health response" to the China-linked coronavirus that's killed more than 100 people and sickened thousands of others worldwide.

During a Tuesday news conference which included U.S. Health Secretary Alex Azar, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Robert Redfield, National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Disease (NCIRD) Director Nancy Messonnier, and National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) Director Anthony Fauci, officials said the outbreak is a "potentially very serious public health threat" in the U.S., but the current risk to Americans remains low. To date, there are five confirmed cases of the novel virus in the U.S.

Azar said the Chinese have refused continued offers from the U.S. to send CDC officials to the country to help with the outbreak response. The offer was first made on Jan. 6, he said, adding U.S. officials have continued to urge more transparency from the country as the disease spreads.

"This is a major public health issue, and we need the best public health people in the world right now [to respond]," he said.

However, Azar noted that China's overall response has been significantly better when compared to their response during the deadly outbreak of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) in 2002-2003. At the time, China was accused of covering up the outbreak, which was not announced to the public until about five months after it began, according to The New York Times.

It’s been 10 years since Steve Jobs introduced the world to the iPad, and today we’re looking at what comes next. In September of 2019, the latest iPad was revealed – iPad 10.2, a 7th-generation tablet ready to roll for a wide variety of use-cases, retaining the elder Apple Pencil and a centered, circular Touch ID and runs the latest iPadOS. In 2020, things are going to get a little bit more unfamiliar.

Look back to our original Apple iPad revealed article to see what it was like to witness the birth of this category-defining product. The video below shows the entirety of the January 2010 event that introduced the iPad.

The iPad 10.2 for late 2019 was not meant to surprise the public with a new industrial design aesthetic. Instead it was made to make use of the already in-production model parts from previous iterations of the iPad as it moved forward with the newest features in a package that kept the price of the otherwise most-recent iteration for $329 USD.

Kobe Bryant’s helicopter circles over Glendale in witness video before deadly crash.

A video has emerged of what is believed to be Kobe Bryant’s helicopter beginning the fateful journey that ended with all nine aboard dying in a fiery crash.

A video has emerged of what is believed to be Kobe Bryant’s helicopter beginning the fateful journey that ended with all nine aboard dying in a fiery crash in California, US.

The basketball legend and eight others — including Bryant’s 13-year-old daughter Gianna – were tragically killed on Sunday.

An alleged witness said he filmed the chopper flying over his house in Glendale early Sunday because it was “so loud” and appeared to be “performing a very aggressive circling manoeuvre”.

“I try and video / photograph all the weird stuff happening above my house in Glendale, CA,” the homeowner wrote on Twitter alongside the clip, which has been viewed more than 25,000 times,” Twitter user @theironlydreams wrote online.

“Unfortunately this morning I didn’t realise I was filming the helicopter Kobe Bryant, his daughter and others were in 31 minutes before they crashed.”

The house has been verified as being under the flight path taken by Sunday’s doomed Sikorsky S-76B chopper, according to the US Today show.

Pilot Ara Zobayan is known to have circled the Glendale area near Burbank airport while navigating through poor visibility.

“This pilot was performing a very aggressive circling manoeuvre, that’s why I went outside to Film because it was so loud,” @theironlydreams wrote.

“I observed 1 or 2 circles before filming & he was even lower & closer to my house, engine maxed.

Unfortunately this flight was tragic.

Kobe Bryant died in a helicopter crash in Calabasas Sunday morning ... TMZ Sports has confirmed.

Kobe was traveling with at least 3 other people in his private helicopter when it went down. A fire broke out. Emergency personnel responded, but nobody on board survived. 5 people are confirmed dead. We're told Vanessa Bryant was not among those on board.

Eyewitnesses also tell us that they heard the helicopter's engine sputtering before it went down. As you can see, flames and smoke covered much of the scene from the wreck. The official cause of the crash is currently under investigation.

Kobe has famously used a helicopter to travel for years -- dating back to when he played for the Lakers. He was known for commuting from Newport Beach, CA to the STAPLES Center in DTLA in his Sikorsky S-76 chopper.

KB is survived by his wife Vanessa. Together, they have four daughters -- Gianna, Natalia and Bianca and their newborn Capri. Kobe and Vanessa got married in 2001 after meeting in 1999.

A memorial to Kobe has already sprung up outside of Staples Center, where Kobe played for years.

Kobe has recently been spotted out at NBA games with his daughter Gianna -- a rising star basketball player herself. Their youngest daughter, Capri, was just born in June 2019.

Celebrities from all over the world and all parts of entertainment are paying tribute to Kobe on social media. Tom Brady, President Trump, Dwyane Wade and more.

Kobe is widely considered one of the greatest NBA players of all time -- making 18 All-Star teams during his 20-year career with the Lakers. He was a first-round pick in the 1996 draft, winning 5 NBA championships, 2 NBA Finals MVPs and he was the league MVP in '08.

We're told they were on their way to the Mamba Academy for a basketball practice when the crash occurred. The Academy is in nearby Thousand Oaks.

12:35 PM PT -- Kobe's daughter Gianna Maria Onore -- aka GiGi -- was also on board the helicopter and died in the crash ... reps for Kobe tell TMZ Sports. She was 13.

12:49 PM PT -- President Trump just tweeted about Kobe's death ... saying, "Reports are that basketball great Kobe Bryant and three others have been killed in a helicopter crash in California. That is terrible news!"

1:12 PM PT -- Rick Fox's attorney confirms the former Laker was NOT among those on board the helicopter, despite rumors that circulated suggesting he was. At least one of the other passengers HAS been confirmed, John Altobelli. He's a baseball coach at Orange Coast College.

1:19 PM PT -- We've obtained the dispatch audio in which you can hear the operator directing emergency personnel to the crash scene.

1:46 PM PT -- Shaquille O'Neal just posted a tribute to Kobe ... saying, "There’s no words to express the pain I’m going through now with this tragic and sad moment of loosing my friend, my brother, my partner in winning championships, my dude and my homie."

1:48 PM PT -- Authorities near the crash site are about to hold a news conference, detailing the fatal incident. We will be streaming the whole thing live. The start time has been pushed to 2:30 PM PT.

2:08 PM PT -- Barack Obama says, "Kobe was a legend on the court and just getting started in what would have been just as meaningful a second act."

"To lose Gianna is even more heartbreaking to us as parents. Michelle and I send love and prayers to Vanessa and the entire Bryant family on an unthinkable day."

2:40 PM PT -- Officials say they believe 9 people were on board -- 1 pilot and 8 passengers -- and there were no survivors. Still unclear why the chopper crashed but an investigation is under way.

NFL Pro Bowl rule changes, explained: Here's what's new for 2020, including no-kickoff experiment

The NFL is going Dua Lipa on the 2020 Pro Bowl: The league is experimenting with two new rules for the game (we counted) for Sunday's all-star game in Orlando (3 p.m. ET, ESPN).

One involves an alternative to onside kicks. The other involves receivers and penalties.

Why is the NFL doing this? With the loose nature of the game, focused more on offense than defense, it's a good testing ground. Here's breaking down what each rule really means:

1. Options after a successful field goal or try attempt with no kickoff

When Team A scores, it has the following two options, per NFL Operations:

Team A may elect to give Team B the ball at Team B’s 25-yard line, beginning a new series of downs with a first-and-10.
Team A may elect to take the ball at its own 25-yard line for a fourth-and-15 play.

There are no kickoffs in the Pro Bowl after a team scores either a field goal or a touchdown. Instead, a team can simply give the ball up for a pseudo-touchback, with the opponent taking over the ensuing possession at its own 25.

This rule does, however, give the scoring team an opportunity, in theory, to never give up the ball outside of the opening possession of either half. Given the degree of difficulty of converting on fourth-and-15 — and the major risk of giving the opponent the ball outside the red zone if there's a failed conversion — it's unlikely the scoring team would take the second option often.

For the team that still might trailing late after s score, converting fourth-and-long is essentially the equivalent of trying to recover an onside kickoff, albeit with a (likely) higher success rate.

With the explosive nature of both offenses in the Pro Bowl, don't be surprised to see one team get aggressive with confidence it can convert at that down and distance — with a good play designed for it. That would be like attempting a surprise onside kick, only with the opponent knowing a team is going for it.

At Least 2 People Killed In Massive Industrial Explosion In Houston

A massive industrial explosion in northwest Houston early Friday killed two people, left a business in ruins, knocked homes off their foundations and sent debris flying for about half a mile.

The predawn blast at a building belonging to Watson Grinding and Manufacturing, which provides industrial services such as thermal spray coatings, could be felt more than 30 miles away, Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo said at a news conference.

Acevedo said it's not clear whether the victims were employees. He said authorities have opened a criminal investigation into the incident but that there was currently no reason to think the explosion was intentional.

Friday's incident is just the latest in a string of industrial explosions in Texas' Gulf Coast region, which houses numerous chemical facilities.

It's not yet clear what caused the explosion, which jolted the area at about 4:30 a.m. local time.

"Multiple buildings and homes had their windows broken in and doors blown off their hinges," Houston Public Media's Davis Land reported.

"The explosion knocked us all out of our bed, it was so strong," resident Mark Brady told Click2Houston. "It busted out every window in our house. It busted everybody's garage door in around here ... and closer toward the explosion over here, it busted people's roofs in and walls in and we don't know what it is. ... It's a warzone over here."

One resident told the local news station that her roof of her home collapsed. "The whole house is ruined," she said. "The whole ceiling crashed down on all of us. We were all trapped in there and a nice family came and helped us out. ... It's just trashed."

The moment of the explosion was caught on video by a doorbell surveillance camera, which shows a bright ball of fire light up the sky.

Authorities initially were concerned because valves on propylene tanks at the site were releasing the colorless and highly flammable gas into the air, but Houston Fire Chief Samuel Peña said the leak has since been contained. A small, contained area at the Watson Grinding and Manufacturing site was still on fire, he said, adding that fire officials have decided to let it burn out on its own.

Hopefully casualties are minimum, though two lives have been lost already. Incidents like this are scary because they happen when people least expect it and no one had a chance to prepare or leave the area. Thoughts and prayers go out to the families of those who died in the explosion and to others who may have been severely injured due to the blast.

President Trump reveals Space Force Logo Resembles Iconic Starfleet Emblem

President Donald J. Trump announced and revealed the new logo for the military division known as the United States Space Force. The logo takes direct cues from the Starfleet Logo and Emblem used in the TV show Star Trek created by Gene Roddenbury.

In Star Trek, Starfleet is an organization that is part military, part science, and part exploration. Starfleet is also the main hub of the intergalactic expanse known as The United Federation Of Planets. A Hub of Planets from other solar systems in the Milky Way Galaxy with sentient, intelligent life that also have their own Governments, civilizations, and way of life. The leaders of these planets have joined together to form a treaty of peace and mutual exchange of technology, culture, and resources in order to perpetuate cohabitation and cooperation between various species in the Galaxy.

Starfleet follows the Prime Directive, a set of rules and laws that Govern how it operates The United Federation Of Planets. One of the main rules of the Prime Directive is to never interfere or make contact with life forms that have yet to reach the capacity of Warp Speed during space travel. Warp Speed enables a species to reach and explore other star systems in the galaxy in relatively low time frames.

Many Geeks from all over are not upset with President Trump for revealing this Logo, nor that it resembles a show loved by so many across the world. Some, however, are crying foul play saying that President Trump has purposefully stolen the trademark Starfleet design. Others note that the new Space Force Logo is actually another version of the United States Airforce Space Command logo. Airforce Space Command was created in 1982 as a department of the Airforce, then was changed to the United States Space Force in December 2019 following the signing of the National Defense Authorization Act. However anyone feels, both the Starfleet Logo and the United States Space Force Logo resemble each other.

Hopefully, The United States Space Force, which is a department of the United States Air Force, will live up to it's name and facilitate protection of the country from hostile alien races while also finding ways to enable a peaceful coexistence among humans and other intergalactic species. The way moves forward.

Tiger Woods Starts First Game Of 2020 At Torrey Pines in San Diego

Any time Tiger Woods returns to competitive golf after a long break, he makes sure to temper his zeal before putting a peg in the ground, and then he looks to discover a proper rhythm to the round as quickly as possible.

Sometimes, he has needed a few holes to find the right tempo, sometimes he has found it from the get-go. A few times, it has taken him so long to find a good pace that he can’t recover from too many mistakes made early in the round.

On Thursday in his latest return after a break of five weeks, Woods needed just two holes to get in tune at Torrey Pines in his 2020 debut. On the sun-splashed, seaside resort where he’s won eight times – including the 2008 U.S. Open on a broken leg – Woods eased his way into the new year with a satisfying 3-under 69 on the North Course for the first round of the Farmers Insurance Open.

A rookie set the pace, and that was Sebastian Cappelen of Denmark, the 341st-ranked player in the world. After finishing in a tie for sixth in last week’s American Express, he continued his good play with a 6-under 66 on the tougher South Course.

Keegan Bradley also had 66, though he played the North.

Defending champion Justin Rose shot 75 on the South.

“I definitely was feeling it,” Woods said. “I missed the competition. I was trying to keep everything as calm as I possibly could. I didn’t do a very good job of that starting out, I made a quick bogey there. I felt like I fought back and there’s a lot of positives heading to the South Course.”

After a pushed approach on the Par 5 10th – his first hole of the round – and a chunked flop shot on the 11th from just in front of the green that led to a bogey, Woods didn’t miss too many shots going forward. That is, except for a chip on the 18th that had too much zip and rolled 45 feet from the hole and led to a bogey.

Other than that, he was calm, cool and collected on a serene day. Looking lean and fit and with nary a hint of rust, the world No. 6 made good use of his new TaylorMade SIM driver – he spent more than 90 minutes on the back of the range Tuesday getting the club dialed in.

“I felt like the start lines were a little bit tighter, which was nice,” Woods said. “Felt like I shaped the ball well off the tees. I didn’t quite get as many fairways as I needed to today, but overall all my misses were in good spots.”

Coronavirus outbreak: More than 30 million quarantined as number of dead, infected rises.

The Chinese city at the center of the deadly new coronavirus became a war zone on Thursday as authorities expanded their lockdown on the city to other areas to contain more than 30 million people.

The unprecedented quarantine came as officials revealed that the flu-like illness has now killed 26 and infected more than 830 worldwide — and that it can spread far more easily between people than previously thought.
Public-health authorities in Wuhan declared they were in a “state of war” as they locked down the central city of nearly 11 million people, where the outbreak was traced to a live animal market in late December.

“Strictly implement emergency-response requirements, enter into a state of war and implement wartime measures to resolutely curb the spread of this epidemic,” a committee of Wuhan’s top officials urged. “Homes must be segregated, neighbors must be watched.”

Hours after announcing the lockdown, authorities moved to cut off at least 10 nearby cities,placing under quarantine a total of more than 30 million people — more than the populations of New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago combined.

In Wuhan, soldiers and SWAT teams in face masks barricaded entrances to rail stations, as trains and planes out of the city were indefinitely suspended and subway and bus service halted. People could still enter the city via car, but police were checking those in incoming vehicles for fever, coughing and trouble breathing.

Workers were disinfecting train stations and other public spaces.
“We are feeling as though it is the end of the world,” one Wuhan resident wrote on China’s Twitter-like Weibo platform.

Elsewhere across China, authorities moved to halt the virus.

China has been a core focus in world news over the past year with many issues surrounding the country such as the Hong Kong Protests and the U S China Trade war. The coronavirus outbreak is just another major issue that the people of China, and it's goverment, are dealing with.

Annabella Sciorra Testifies in Harvey Weinstein Trial:
‘He Raped Me’

The news is abuzz about the latest alleged victim in the Harvey Weinstein trial and her testimony. Actress Annabella Sciorra, who was nominated for a Prime Time Emmy award for her work in HBO's the Sopranos, testified that Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced Hollywood mogul, raped her in her Manhattan apartment when Annabella Sciorra was just an up and coming actress.

Jan Ransom of the New York Times writes:

They met at a party in Los Angeles in the early 1990s. She was an up-and-coming actress.

He was a young producer. As they got to know each other over the next four years, there were, she said, some “inappropriate” gestures: a care package of popcorn and Valium, a box of chocolate penises.

Then, Annabella Sciorra said on the witness stand on Thursday, Harvey Weinstein raped her. Fighting back tears, Miss Sciorra testified in excruciating detail to a hushed courtroom about the night she said she was attacked.

After shoving his way into her Manhattan apartment, she said, Mr. Weinstein took her to a bedroom, forced her onto the bed and, as she sought to fight him off, sexually assaulted her.

“I was trying to get him off me,” Ms. Sciorra told the jury, her voice cracking with emotion. “I was punching him, kicking him.” But Mr. Weinstein held her down, she said, adding: “He got on top of me and he raped me.”

The testimony in State Supreme Court in Manhattan marked the first time that one of Mr. Weinstein’s numerous accusers took the stand at a long-awaited criminal trial that has come to symbolize the hashtag MeToo movement.

Several women are expected to testify during the trial that Mr. Weinstein attacked them, though Mr. Weinstein faces charges of rape and criminal sexual act based on the allegations of only two of them. The judge is allowing the others to testify to establish a pattern of behavior, even though most of their allegations are too old to qualify as crimes under state law.

Ms. Sciorra’s encounter with Mr. Weinstein also happened too long ago to be charged as a rape, but prosecutors are using her testimony to bolster a charge of predatory sexual assault. That count carries a possible life sentence and requires the state to prove Mr. Weinstein committed a serious sexual offense against at least two people.

Mr. Weinstein, now 67, faces charges that he raped an aspiring actress in a Manhattan hotel room in 2013 and forced oral sex on a production assistant in his TriBecca apartment in 2006.

Mr. Weinstein’s lawyers maintain that the women willingly had sex with him to advance their careers, and that some of them continued intimate relationships with him after the alleged attacks.

Needless to say, it looks as if the prosecuting attorneys are looking to put away Harvey Weinstein for the rest of his life. That may be hard if they cannot prove, without a reasonable doubt, that Weinstein has had a pattern of predatory sexual assault.
