Since 2005, after receiving $17 million in funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, researchers from Regeneron and Yale University have been developing a human immune system mouse, the MISTRG mouse, humanized with human fetal liver, which they have used to produce antibodies and test monoclonal antibody therapy.

Regeneron's monoclonal antibody cocktail, the conservative treatment of choice, was developed with the use of the HEK293T stem cell line, was harvested from humanized mice, and was tested on mice humanized with human fetal liver.

Two studies conducted by Ralph Baric and researchers at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill used mice engrafted with human fetal lung tissue obtained from Advanced Bioscience Resources to test the new COVID-19 antiviral pill, Molnupiravir.

Hundreds of BLT-L humanized mice are being made right now at the University of Saskatchewan to test a pan-coronavirus vaccine. What is the source of the "fresh and never frozen" human fetal organs required for this project?

Meet the third member of the self-proclaimed "Dream Team" making BLT-L mice in Saskatoon: Angela Rasmussen, VIP American virologist and top government scientific researcher and learn about her role at CoVaRRNet, the Canadian government's response to emerging coronavirus variants in animals.

Three NIH-trained researchers are currently involved in engineering hundreds of BLT mice humanized with fetal liver, thymus and lung tissue for the testing of a pan-coronavirus vaccine.
