Do you remember Saria? she was the best character in Ocarina of time for me, Ruta was too rude, I swore the Goron was not all there, and Zelda herself has always been treated as more of a tool to Hyrule... but the implications of Saria was that of a child stepping up and being a mother to an orphan, who was nearly rejected outright by everyone else, and it hit hard, back in the day...
The only way I see the Kokiri coming back is through the new 4th timeline, Nintendo can do ANYTHING with the 4th branch, even use the established universal gene thing to allow for a custom hero in the future that could be whatever you want! adorable fish monster anyone?

Rose the crimson dryad spent her life in hiding just like her mother, the champion of Terraria's personal dryad mouth wh-. However, on the news that a monster girl by the name of Gina the Slime took his place, Rose feared for her mother. on arrival to the castle built on the taken land ready for battle, she was greeted with... happiness... the nurse though missing an eye, was now a real doctor, the zoologist became a monster animal and cryptid breeder, and the party girl ascended to godhood. among many other wonderful things for all of Terraria.
the fate of the world was left to Rose, as Gena went to collect the goo of the heroes of many other worlds, to bring all the slime colors and subsects together to RULE ZAH WALDO!!! (More details in the adult comic I'm working on in DeviantArt 'The Hero "Eating" adventures of Gena Da Slime')
