It's been a crazy year. Loosing my job. Feeling like a victim. Finding my tribe and putting the uniform on again.

A video diary of a second class citizen in a first world country

Getting stood down by FedEX without entitlements or pay by FedEx on the 17th of December. QLD BS ramps up X1000. Very soon I'm going to have plenty of time on my hands to make videos and document what it is like being a second class citizen.

Just saying goodbye to my friends and family on FaceBook.

A rainy night. I love doing these kinds of recordings as they help me fall asleep. All kinds of souds can be heard. Rain, cars droning in the distance, a couple of dogs snoring, a gecko chirping and even a kookaburra having a laugh. Heaps of sounds to listen to in this recording.

I return to an area where I have had a possible yowie (bigfoot) encounter. I ran into a few issues getting to the bush but eventually got there. At one point the bush goes deadly silent and my dog Turbo gets spooked.

Fed up and had a gutful

Today I test out my new recorder and custom made wind protection, dubbed the NZ Sex Doll 2021. On our walk looking for the ideal spot I nearly got bitten by a brown snake. Unfortunately I didn't film it and I didn't want to follow it to film it as I was concerned that Turbo would get to close to it. It was more effective than an energy drink or a super strong coffee because it got the old adrenaline pumping, that's for sure! The audio test was a great success. In this recording you'll hear birds, planes, a chain saw, some one chopping wood, a group of people walking. I'm amazed with the detail the microphones and recorder produced. The vibrating/fluttering sounds that you can hear are actually the birds wings flapping 100mph or whatever speed birds flap at. I recommend using headphones or good speakers for the best listening experience.

A dog walk at night. One last field recording with my Zoom H5. It will be replaced by the Zoom F6 this week. I took Turbo for a walk around our neighborhood. I was using the standard XY capsule that came with the recorder. You'll hear traffic, cicadas, crickets and other sounds. The photos I took were with my phone as I wanted to get some nice anamorphic flares with my Moment lens. The Pixel 3 hasn't aged well, some of the photos look cartoon like. I had fun and Turbo enjoyed the walk as always.

Mucking around with my phone and an anamorphic lens made by Moment

Spare of the moment today. I decided to take the wife, kids and dogs to Nudgee Beach today. We packed up and went. I forgot to pack my Fuji camera in my camera bag so I just took photos with my phone. None of the photos are "oh my god" amazing or anything but they add a little visual to the story the audio is giving you. The Zoom SSH-6 stereo shotgun mic did a great job. I'm still waiting for my Lewitt 040 Matched pair and the Gutmann deadcats to arrive as I believe they will up my field recording quality buy leaps and bounds. I am pretty happy how this one turned out though.

A field recording of nature

Chicken coop surrounded by flies. A field recording of sorts. More of an experiment as I wanted to see how the Boya BY-MM1 would sound connected to a Rode XLR converter and attached to my Zoom H5 Field recorder. The Microphones you are hearing are the mentioned Boya and the Zoom SSH-6 stereo shotgun microphone capsule. The Boya has a warm sound signature which is surprising. Anyway thanks for listening.

I went for a ghost hunt last night. I decided to only take audio recordings and flash photography. I suppose this is kind of a podcast style ghost hunt.
Notable time stamps:
17:00 bugle(s) playing
25:00 possible EVP saying "the Devil"?
28:24 Groan EVP
35:51 Ghost girl/woman?
40:07 Interesting shape

Things I have learned for future reference:
Ensuring my shock mounts are correct, especially when walking. I wasn't planning to upload this video but some of the captures were good. besides the annoying rattle I think I did well on the audio side of things.

Gear I will get in the future....eventually:
Night vision action cam and mountable light.
Zoom stereo shotgun microphone capsule.
