"It's not a good idea, not when you consider the fact that, over the last four years, San Francisco spent $20 million to basically service a total of a couple of hundred people… by giving them free vodka and beer. For that amount of money, we could have funded 60 drug treatment beds instead," Tom Wolf, founder of the Pacific Alliance for Prevention and Recovery, told "Fox & Friends First."
"You really have to ask, where's the recovery in all of this? What is the desired outcome of this program? They say it'll save money, but we just spent $20 million bucks over the last four years. You have to really ask, ‘is it saving money, and is it making a difference?’"
Wolf, a recovering heroin addict, once lived on the street. He said a similar program tailored toward his addiction would have either kept him on the street or he would be dead by now.
"I don't really see what the benefit is of all of this, and I'm glad it was exposed," he said.
The program also offers life skills classes and cultural outings for patients, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
The outlet also said the city's public health department claims to have found a drop in emergency room visits as well as a reduced hospital stays and emergency calls as a result of the program.

NY POST: The Alvin Bragg case has gotten grander at trial, but also more ridiculous.
The Manhattan district attorney has a meaningless business-records misdemeanor wrapped within a theory about an alleged Trump conspiracy to defraud the voters by denying them disparaging information before the election and obscuring after the fact the payments that were used to do so.
Bragg is accusing former President Donald Trump, in effect, of stealing the election.
He, thus, joins all the other progressives who have denied the legitimacy of Trump’s 2016 election, although he finds the culprit not in Russia (at least not in this case) but in the shady maneuverings around Stormy Daniels.
If this is the standard by which we judge elections, we need to go back and conclude that Bill Clinton wasn’t elected legitimately in 1992, either.
Clinton had the same underlying problem as Trump — namely, women with embarrassing stories to tell — but the opposite tabloid dynamic; the tabloids were trying to get Clinton, whereas the National Enquirer was trying to protect Trump.
The Clinton campaign fought to silence or discredit women as necessary.
Clinton’s operatives had the foresight — there’s nothing like planning ahead — to secure affidavits of denial from women rumored to have had affairs with Clinton.
The truth didn’t matter here, of course. They just wanted the exculpatory statements.
So, when the Star tabloid reported that five Arkansas women, including one named Gennifer Flowers, had had affairs with Clinton, the campaign was ready.
According to George Stephanopoulos, the campaign’s strategy initially was to attack the tabloid messenger and use previously signed affidavits to undermine the story.
Then, Flowers shifted from denying the affair to confirming it in detail. Her story had to be destroyed.
Again, everyone knew what they were doing, which was keeping the truth from the voters in the service of what they considered a higher good.
State troopers were involved in procuring women for Clinton and had been pressured prior to the 1992 campaign not to talk.
A Clinton loyalist named Buddy Young told one of the troopers during the campaign, “If you know what’s good for you, you’ll keep your mouth shut.”

NY City 4/30/24 -- Leftist Judge Juan Merchan found Trump violated the order on nine separate occasions, with each violation resulting in a $1,000 fine.
The judge detailed in the order that if Trump carries out "continued willful violations" of the gag order, he could face "incarceratory punishment" if "necessary and appropriate."
Trump attorneys argue the gag order is a violation of the former president’s First Amendment rights. District Attorney Alvin Bragg and his office alleged Trump violated the order at least 14 times, as of last week. The gag order was imposed on Trump in the lead up to the trial last month.
During a hearing on the gag order last week, Merchan argued the Trump team was "losing all credibility" while defending the 45th president's comments on social media that violated the order.
"I’ve asked you eight or nine times, ‘Show me the exact post that he was responding to,’ and you haven’t been able to do that once," Merchan told the Trump team last week.
The defense team argued in the hearing that Trump was responding to attacks when he made comments that allegedly violated the order. Merchan pressed Trump attorney Todd Blanche to provide instances that showed Trump was responding to a specific incident.
"I have to tell you right now, you’re losing all credibility in the court," Merchan told Blanche last Tuesday.
Trump has meanwhile slammed the case overall as a "scam" promoted by the Biden administration, and has argued the gag order has stripped him of the ability to defend himself against accusations in the case.
"We have a gag order, which to me is totally unconstitutional. I'm not allowed to talk, but people are allowed to talk about me. So, they can talk about me," Trump said outside the New York City courtroom. "They can say whatever they want, they can lie, but I'm not allowed to say anything. I just have to sit back and look at why a conflicted judge has ordered me to have [a] gag order," Trump said in comments outside the courtroom last week.
"I don't think anybody's ever seen anything like this. I'd love to talk to you people. I'd love to say everything that's on my mind, but I'm restricted because I have a gag order," he continued.

Former President Trump blasted the antisemitic unrest taking place at Columbia University on Tuesday, while describing the violent 2017 Charlottesville rally as "peanuts" compared to the unrest on the college campus.
Trump spoke to reporters outside the courtroom on Tuesday before the third week of his unprecedented criminal trial stemming from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s investigation begins.
"Well, if the people that know Charlottesville, when you extend that statement, it’s a big hoax," Trump said Tuesday. "Charlottesville is peanuts compared to what you’re looking at now."
Trump said the entire country "is up in arms."
"Breaking into colleges, knocking the hell out of Columbia University, I mean — they took over the building. I know the building very well," Trump said. "They took over a building and that is a big deal."
Trump also questioned whether the students would be held accountable.

Trump Jr. noted that he had met some of de Matteo’s former co-stars in New York and suggested, “I don’t feel like a lot of those guys were leftist liberals,” yet even so, he did not want to out them as non-liberals until they wanted to come forward themselves.
He then asked de Matteo if she had noticed other Hollywood actors also question modern leftist policy, but who don’t quite “have the guts to do what you’re doing.”

Eric Trump warned that if the Supreme Court brushes aside presidential immunity, prosecutors could line up a case against President Biden over last summer’s White House cocaine debacle.
The Trump scion further cautioned that if his father fails to win his bid for absolute immunity then the floodgates could be open to a flurry of prosecutions against other presidents.
“They’ll probably go after Joe Biden for having cocaine in the White House. They’ll go after Biden for raiding his opponent’s home,” Eric Trump, 40, predicted on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures.”
“They will probably go after him … for literally, two weeks before the 2022 primaries, literally depleting the petroleum national — the reserves so he could lower gas prices,” he railed.
Last Thursday, the Supreme Court heard a landmark case in which former President Donald Trump, 77, claimed that presidents enjoy absolute immunity for their official actions, and therefore the courts should toss out his four-count 2020 election indictment.
Echoing the former president’s legal team, Eric Trump cautioned that without immunity protecting former commanders-in-chief, overzealous prosecutors could have a field day.
“The only people who are going to benefit are big law firms in Washington, DC, because they are going to go after every single president. They will start with Obama, Fast and Furious, right, where he gives 2,000 weapons to cartel members,” Eric Trump mused.
“Where do you want to stop? Are they going to go after George Bush for lying about weapons of mass destruction,” he later added.
Donald Trump is the first sitting or current US president to be criminally charged and is facing 88 counts spanning four indictments. He has denied wrongdoing and pleaded not guilty to all charges.
“The floodgates are going to open, and I guarantee you, Joe Biden will not have one foot outside of the White House doors before they start going after him legally, ruthlessly,” Eric Trump added.
Although the younger Trump was vague about who might target Biden, 81, his father has previously vowed to name a special prosecutor to look into the first family.
Donald Trump had also made a similar pledge about Hillary Clinton but ultimately declined to follow up during his administration.
