Rhodesia - The Early Years with new colorised old photos. Cecil Rhodes moved north from South Africa with a private army, after securing exclusive mining rights. The Africans soon rejected the agreement, and until 1896, a series of wars took place to try and prevent colonisation. However, the white settlers heavily defeated the native Africans, and called the new territory Rhodesia.
