We had a confusion of dates for our hotel stay in Palermo, Sicily, causing us to be without a room, late on a Friday night when Palermo is fully booked! Trying 5 hotels, (who are also calling hotels and AirBnBs), even considering staying the night at the train station, we are rescued by a Café Owner who drives us to gorgeous Hotel Bellevue at midnight. This glorious morning, the hotel manager is driving us back to the train station so we can continue our journey to coastal town Cefalu, Sicily.

After some days to get used to being in Palermo, and getting in sync with such a vibrant place, we end up liking it quite a bit! We are walking down the pedestrian street on a weekend where you can find people from all over the world. The whole street is lined with outdoor cafes and restaurants, with scooters, motorbikes, bicycles and foot traffic making people-watching very fascinating.

There are lots of cafes and restaurants with outdoor seating, the harbor is close by, and many pastel-colored buildings. He brings you into our fresh vegetable and fruit store which also sells delicious table wine for $2Euro a liter! Just an hour from Rome, you can stay in Anzio and take a day trip to the capitol!

We’ve gone food shopping in Anzio and came back with some dee-licious treats for our lunch on the terrazza. Our hotel is the perfect place to enjoy this meal with a view of Roman Emperor Nero’s private beach and harbor, and with foot traffic below. We were fortunate to find Pecorino wine for $2Euro a liter!

Billy walks along the sidewalk in Anzio viewing the Tyrrhenian sea and the many sun umbrellas staked into the sand. Families enjoy this beach due to the manmade water breaks that keep the waves to the seashore mild. Billy tells you of 2 encounters with the airline security who wanted to take our immersion water heater and eventually took our electrical tape. So that’s why we are replacing it now.

Akaisha is on the beach this lovely morning in Anzio, Italy. Here you see some of the ruins of Roman Emperor Nero’s Villa as vacationers take a dip in the Tyrrhenian Sea. This is also the location of Anzio’s Landing in WWII, comparable to Normandy’s D-Day landing in France. The buildings on the coast were bombed out during the war, and had to be rebuilt. Take a look!

Billy is taking this video from out in the Tyrrhenian Sea, a part of the Mediterranean Sea on the southern coast of Italy. The town is Anzio, where Roman Emperor Nero had his villa and also where WWII’s Anzio Landing took place. You can see some ruins of Nero’s villa, but the town – which was bombed terribly in WWII – has been rebuilt. Blue skies, blue water, Anzio is a lovely town to visit.

We visited Italy earlier this year in the spring and had cooler, windy weather. Now it’s the autumn and the weather has warmed up. Billy shows you Roman Emperor Nero’s beach and park, Al Terzo Rooftop Bar and the beach where Anzio’s Landing happened in WWII. It’s early morning and this is the view from our hotel balcony.

Billy shows you the waterfront in Salerno, Italy. Tucked in by mountain ranges, this protected harbor has sailboats and small watercraft. There’s a walking street in front of the harbor that is also used by joggers and cyclists. Salerno, Italy is on the Southern Coast of this country.

Jim and Kathy McLeod sometimes go to Guadalajara, Mexico from Chapala to have medical tests done. They save a good deal of money by doing this (50%!!) and they show you how it’s done. Using Google Maps, and local buses to arrive to their location, they also describe how doctors and clinics use the popular app WhatsApp to give you your results. Then they take a breather at a hotel with a pool to reward themselves. What a life!!

It’s a weekend and we are strolling down the Walking Street in Salerno, Italy. It’s a clean, upscale city with lots of outdoor restaurants and cafes. Locals come out to enjoy the walk, take their pets, and cyclists and runners all use the same road. The sea is not far from this street in Beautiful Salerno, Italy.
