I like this music a lot, so I decided it deserves a place on Youtube.
The recordings I chose are a bit mono - though stereo - from a vinyl to mp3 source, so I decided to "enhance" them a bit. The reissue of the album is of great quality.

Edit for headphones. "Sister Morphine" is a song written by Marianne Faithfull, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. Faithfull released the original version of the song as the B-side to her Decca Records single "Something Better" on 21 February 1969. A different version was released two years later by the Rolling Stones for their 1971 album "Sticky Fingers".
The personnel for the Faithfull version are Marianne on vocals, Jagger on acoustic guitar, Ry Cooder on slide guitar and bass guitar, Jack Nitzsche on piano and organ, and Charlie Watts on drums.
The original UK Decca single credited Faithfull as a co-writer, but when London Records issued the single in the United States, her name was omitted, as it was from the credit on "Sticky Fingers". After a legal battle Faithfull retained her rights as a co-author, acknowledged by the 1994 Virgin Records reissue of the Stones' album catalogue from "Sticky Fingers" through "Steel Wheels".
In the United Kingdom, Faithfull's single was withdrawn by Decca due to the drug reference in the title, after an estimated 500 copies had been issued, but in other countries the single remained in release. In some territories such as the Netherlands, Italy and Japan, "Sister Morphine" appeared on the A-side. In addition, the French, US and Netherlands editions of the single actually featured alternate versions of both sides to the UK release.
In New Zealand the single with "Broken English" as b-side charted #37 in 1982.
Here are some facts about the song:
Marianne Faithfull recorded this during The Stones' "Let It Bleed session"s (she was Mick Jagger's girlfriend at the time). Her version was released in 1969 and tanked. Decca Records pulled it after two weeks.
The song is about a man who gets in a car accident and dies in the hospital while asking for morphine.
Mick Jagger wrote the music in Rome in 1968. Marianne Faithfull wrote the lyrics, but The Stones did not give her an official songwriting credit until they released it on their 1998 live album "No Security". The Stones were very protective about songwriting credits - they made sure most of their songs were credited to Jagger/Richards.
Faithfull was not a heavy drug user when she wrote the lyrics, but became an addict in 1971, at the same time The Stones' version was released. She called this her "Frankenstein," consuming her and leading her into an abyss of drugs. In later years, she was able to break the habit resume a successful career as both a singer and an actress.
Some of the lyrics were inspired by the time Anita Pallenberg, Keith's girlfriend, was hospitalized and given morphine.
Ry Cooder played the bottleneck guitar on this track. He was filling in for the drug-addled Brian Jones, who died before this song was released, but after it was written. This was the only song on "Sticky Fingers" that Mick Taylor, who replaced Jones, didn't play on.
Edit for headphones, March 2022. This edit is a combination of the official release (the sung part) and a bootleg release (the instrumental part). Source is the first part of the song "Gomper" on the official album (Japanese mini lp uicy-93026) and the ENTIRE second part of the song "Gomper part 1 (take 2) (Olympic Sound Studios, London 10_08 to 7_09_67)" of the eight cd bootleg box set "Studio Outtakes & Rarities Vol. 3.2 Remastered By Teague Raw".
I like this bootleg's instrumental take, because the flute is not in it. (Alas, it lacks Brian Jones' mellotron, which gives the official release its magic atmosphere.)

GOMPER
(Jagger/Richards)
by the lake with lilly flowers
'while away the evening hours
to and fro she's gently gliding
on the glassy lake she's riding
she swims to the side
the sun sees her dried
the birds hover high
I'd stifle a cry
the birds hover high
she moans with a sigh

Edit for headphones, March 2023. Edit of a song from the 1967 album "Headquarters" (2013 2 cd deluxe edition).
The official release is totally different, I like this demo best. (The official release - overproduced and with an annoying steel guitar - is on the album "Instant Replay" and added to this edit, with a warning!)
NINE TIMES BLUES
(Michael Nesmith)
there's a certain something in the way
you looked at me and said you'd stay
that let me know that I was out of line
but I didn't know what else to do
and like a fool I tested you
by demanding things of you which weren't mine
and now I feel like such a fool
for making you crawl back to me
but you did it with such love
that you're standing far above
me and all I did to you
I'm sorry now what can I do
I know that never in the world
could I have found me such a girl
who's there to pick me up before I fall
and if in the end we should go
both our separate ways
I know the lessons I've learned here is worth it all
and now I feel like such a fool
for making you crawl back to me
but you did it with such love
that you're standing far above
me and all I did to you
I'm sorry now what can I do
I know that never in the world
could I have found me such a girl
who's there to pick me up before I fall
and if in the end we should go
both our separate ways
I know the lessons I've learned here is worth it all

Edit 1 for headphones, of the mono version. A number one hit twice in Holland: in 1970, and in 1980 with the live version. #1 New Zealand, #2 UK, #2 Canada, #2 Germany, #4 Australia and # 9 in what's wrong with U, SA ?
Again the source file is from the great quality album "The Kinks Remastered" (1995 Castle cd # 268).
The line "You drink champagne and it tastes just like cherry cola" was recorded as "it tastes just like Coca-Cola." The BBC refused to play it because of the commercial reference, so Ray Davies flew from New York to London to change the lyric and get the song on the air.
(By the way: I like cherry cola the best.)
The Kinks were not the first to sing about Lola and Cola; an anti prohibition song from 1918 (amongst others sung by Edward Meeker) has the line: "At the table with Lola they will serve us Coca-Cola." The song is: "Ev'ry Day'll Be Sunday When The Town Goes Dry".
Ray Davies wrote the lyrics after the Kinks' manager got drunk at a club and started dancing with what he thought was a woman.
LOLA
(Ray Davies)
I met her in a club down in North Soho
Where you drink champagne and it tastes just like cherry cola
C-O-L-A cola
She walked up to me and she asked me to dance
I asked her name and in a dark brown voice she said, "Lola"
L-O-L-A Lola, lo lo lo lo Lola
Well, I'm not the world's most physical guy
But when she squeezed me tight she nearly broke my spine
Oh my Lola, lo lo lo lo Lola
Well, I'm not dumb but I can't understand
Why she walk like a woman and talk like a man
Oh my Lola, lo lo lo lo Lola, lo lo lo lo Lola
Well, we drank champagne and danced all night
Under electric candlelight
She picked me up and sat me on her knee
And said, "Little boy won't you come home with me?"
Well, I'm not the world's most passionate guy
But when I looked in her eyes
Well, I almost fell for my Lola
Lo lo lo lo Lola, lo lo lo lo Lola
Lola lo lo lo lo Lola lo lo lo lo Lola
I pushed her away, I walked to the door
I fell to the floor, I got down on my knees
I looked at her, and she at me
Well that's the way that I want it to stay
And I always want it to be that way for my Lola
Lo lo lo lo Lola
Girls will be boys, and boys will be girls
It's a mixed-up, muddled-up, shook-up world
Except for Lola, lo lo lo lo Lola
Well I left home just a week before
And I've never ever kissed a woman before
But Lola smiled and took me by the hand
And said, "Little boy, gonna make you a man"
Well I'm not the world's most masculine man
But I know what I am and I'm glad I'm a man
And so is Lola
Lo lo lo lo Lola, lo lo lo lo Lola
Lola, lo lo lo lo Lola, lo lo lo lo Lola... (times five)

Maybe it took so long because it is an old computer where Windows 11 is supposed NOT to be running on (processor: AMD A4-4000 code name Richland - memory: 6GB DDR3 - Windows 11 forced install with Rufus).

this song was eleven years in the top 10 of the Dutch top 2000, is has three parts, part 2 starts at 4:28 part 3 at 6:57
this edit has some distortion here & there, for the song has tons of sounds, so it was quite difficult to sort out the bass et cetera
in 1977 and 1978 for five weeks a number 1 (single top 100) hit in Holland, no chart in England (England was asleep those years...) and # 39 in - backward at that time - US... and in 1988 in Holland again a hit, # 3 in the single top 100

Edit (Joe Loss) for headphones. Source file of the edit is on the cd "The Rolling Stones - Get Your Kicks" by World Production Of Compact Music (WPOCM cat.nr. 0289D018-2), which says: recorded June 26th, 1964, during a live performance in the London Alexandra Palace. But that's wrong, it was recorded on Friday 17th July 1964 during the Joe Loss Pop Show, a BBC radio show.
Back in 1964, to coincide with a new release from The Rolling Stones, the band’s fan club organised a huge 'All Night Rave' at London’s infamous Alexandra Palace.
While the Fab Four were still fresh-faced and fancy-free, The Rolling Stones represented the darker side of the pop invasion of the sixties. Founders Brian Jones, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards found themselves in front of a huge crowd, willing to go to war for the band.

Edit for headphones.
The Pretty Things are an English rock band from London, who originally formed in 1963. They took their name from Bo Diddley's 1955 song "Pretty Thing".
The Pretty Things were preceded by "Little Boy Blue and the Blue Boys", which consisted of Dick Taylor, Keith Richards and Mick Jagger. When Brian Jones was recruiting for his own band, all three joined Brian and Ian Stewart and were dubbed "Rollin' Stones" by Brian Jones. Taylor would briefly play bass guitar in the arising Rolling Stones.
Taylor quit the Stones several months later and met Phil May and they formed the Pretty Things. They recruited Brian Pendleton on rhythm guitar, John Stax on bass and Pete Kitley, replaced by Viv Andrews and then by Viv Prince on drums.

Edit 2b for headphones.
Recorded June 10 & 11, 1964. Can you believe that? 1964 ! Recorded in the one and only fantastic Chess Records Studio of genuine Jewish high fidelity quality. Released August 1964 in the UK on the EP "Five By Five", in the US on the album "12 x 5" in October 1964. In April 1971 it appeared (unauthorized by The Rolling Stones) on the UK album "Stone Age". And that's it ! What a shame! (I don't count the mono release on "The Rolling Stones In Mono", for that's a shame too.) It is on no other officially released album! The source file of this edit is from the album "12 x 5" (2006 remastered Japanese mini lp)(uicy-93014).
Electric guitars: Brian Jones (probably also harmonica) & Keith Richards. Vocals & harmonica (which I doubt): Mick Jagger. Bass: Bill Wyman. Drums: Charlie Watts. Piano: Ian Stewart.

well baby
can I have you for myself

edit for headphones. a zappa masterpiece from the album "one size fits all". if the bass sounds distorted, then your headphones need replacement, sorry... but, i admit, it's near the edges, real in the red... originally, "sofa" was only performed in concert and was part of a longer composition around the flo (mark volman) and eddie (howard kaylan) era of zappa's music, when mark volman pretended to be a sofa. in 1975, sofa made its first album appearance on zappa's album "one size fits all" as an instrumental version and a vocal version (sofa no. 1 and sofa no. 2). "sofa" is one of the most referenced zappa songs throughout his discography.

Edit for headphones, June 2021. A Bob Dylan song. Source of this edit is the song on the 1968 Byrds album "Sweetheart Of The Rodeo" (1997 remaster + bonus tracks). The song was released by The Byrds in 1968, three years before Bob Dylan released it and was nr.45 in the UK charts, nr.74 in the USA. A later cover by ex-Byrds members Roger McGuinn and Chris Hillman reached the top 10 of the Hot Country Songs charts in 1989.

Edit 1b for headphones, February 2018. "Top of the Pops" 1971 on UK TV. The official video is missing the first chord of the opening guitar riff, and that's just plain stupid. I added it in this edit. For that first chord is what makes the riff the riff... yes, I made this one just for that first half of a second. I apologize for not being able to cut that dreadful sax'oh''oh'phone, it is something we have to live with... (it would sort of harm the video).

Not an edit. A song from John Sebastian's 1974 album "Tarzana Kid". Though the album was a commercial failure and did not chart it contains some amazingly beautiful precious gems you really wouldn't want to miss. Here is the first one on the album, a smashingly well done sound, proving John is a master in sound recording and a great musician. A genious. I heard a lot of sixties and seventies albums and the major part has a poor sound quality. John stands out from the crowd! A seventy four year old album that sounds like being recorded seventy four minutes ago... More songs will be published here...
Sitting in limbo means: you are unsure what is gonna happen. John has managed to catch that feeling far far better than Jimmy Cliff did in his performance of the song.
Considering the massive list of people who contributed to the album it must have been so very hard for John to deal with the fact that the album was a commercial failure... let this be a comfort: in the early sixties when the Beatles were introduced to the Dutch tv audience, some backward tv host's talent scouting program concluded that they didn't stand a chance... or: a commercial failure doesn't at all represent the fineness of an album...

(Jimmy Cliff/Guilly Bright)
sitting here in limbo
but I know it won't be long
sitting here in limbo
like a bird without a song
yes there's been some resistance
but I know that my faith will lead me on
sitting here in limbo
waiting for the dice to roll
yes I'm sitting here in limbo
had some time to search my soul
yes there's been some resistance
but I know that my faith will lead me on
I don't know where life would lead me
but I know where I've been
I don't know what life will show me
but I know what I've seen
hd my share of love and friendship
but what's in the past is gone
this little boy is movin' on
sitting here in limbo
waiting for the tide to roll
yes I'm sitting here in limbo
knowing that I have to go
well there's been some resistance
but I know that my faith will lead me on
sitting here in a limbo
sitting here in a limbo
mmm...

Edit for headphones, July 2022. A song of the album "The Best Of Otis Redding". In 1962 "These Arms Of Mine" charted nr.20 on the US Billboard hot R & B. Awarded RIAA gold and BPI silver.
THESE ARMS OF MINE
(Otis Redding)
these arms of mine, they are lonely
lonely and feeling blue
these arms of mine, they are yearning
yearning from wanting you
and if you would let them hold you
oh, how grateful I will be
these arms of mine, they are burning
burning from wanting you
these arms of mine, they are wanting
wanting to hold you
and if you would let them hold you
oh how grateful I will be
come on, come on baby
just be my little woman
just be my lover, oh
I need me somebody, somebody to treat me right, oh
I need your arms, loving arms to hold me tight
and I, I, I need your, I need your tender lips, to hold me

UNDER THE BOARDWALK
(Kenny Young and Arthur Resnick)
when the sun beats down
and burns the tar up on the roof
and your shoes get so hot
you wish your tired feet were fireproof
under the boardwalk
oown by the sea
on a blanket with my baby
is where I'll be
(under the boardwalk) out of the sun
(under the boardwalk) we'll be having some fun
(under the boardwalk) people walking above
(under the boardwalk) we'll be making love
(under the boardwalk, boardwalk)
from the park you'll hear
the happy sound of a carousel
you can almost taste the hot dogs
and french fries they sell
under the boardwalk
down by the sea, yeah
on a blanket with my baby
is where I'll be
(under the boardwalk) out of the sun
(under the boardwalk) we'll be having some fun
(under the boardwalk) people walking above
(under the boardwalk) we'll be making love
(under the boardwalk, boardwalk)
oh, under the boardwalk
down by the sea
on a blanket with my baby
is where I'll be
(under the boardwalk) out of the sun
(under the boardwalk) we'll be having some fun
(under the boardwalk) people walking above
(under the boardwalk) we'll be falling in love
(under the boardwalk, boardwalk)

GET IT WHILE YOU CAN
(Jerry Ragovoy and Mort Shuman)
in this world, if you read the papers, darling
you know everybody's fighting on with each other
you got no one you can count on, dear
not even your own brother
so if someone comes along
he's gonna give you some love and affection
I'd say get it while you can, yeah
honey, get it while you can yeah
hey, hey, get it while you can
don't you turn your back on love, no no
don't you know when you're loving anybody baby
you're taking a gamble on a little sorrow
but then who cares, baby
'cause we may not be here tomorrow, no
and if anybody should come along
he gonna give you any love and affection
I'd say get it while you can, yeah
hey, hey get it while you can
hey, hey get it while you can
don't you turn your back on love
no no no, no no no no no
oh, get it while you can
honey get it when you're gonna wanna need it dear, yeah yeah
hey hey, get it while you can
don't you turn your back on love
no no no, no no no no, get it while you can yeah
I said hold on to somebody when you get a little lonely, dear
hey hey, hold on to that man's heart
yeah, get it, want it, hold it, need it
get it, want it, need it, hold it
get it while you can
honey get it while you can, baby yeah
hey hey get it while you can

Edit 3 (of version 1) for headphones. This is the Rolling Stones song I like the best...
Three versions. First version - this one - is the long, uncut one from "Aftermath", the album every Stones fan should buy. It has the chorus accompaniment centered.
Second version is the different mix from the album "Flowers": the chorus accompaniment at the right, and the song cut almost two minutes shorter.
Third version is on "Metamorphosis", the Andrew Loog Oldham skillfully messed up version...
Source cd of this edit: the 2006 Japanese remastered mini lp "Aftermath" (UK version)(uicy-93021).
Main artistic influence: Brian Jones. Marimbas & piano: Brian Jones. Background vocals: Brian Jones, Bill Wyman & Keith Richards. Lead vocals: Mick Jagger. Acoustic guitars: Keith Richards. Harpsichord: Jack Nitzsche. Organ: Ian Stewart. Drums: Charlie Watts. Bass: Bill Wyman.
Photos at 3:36 - 3:37 are of Brian and model Penelope Tree, presumably from spring 1969. Taken by David Bailey. 3:49 has Brian Jones in the same clothes, also a Bailey photo.
OUT OF TIME
(Jagger/Richards)
you don't know what's going on
you've been away for far too long
you can't come back and think you are still mine
you're out of touch my baby
my poor discarded baby
I said, baby, baby, baby you're out of time
well, baby, baby, baby you're out of time
I said, baby, baby, baby you're out of time
you are left out
out of there without a doubt
'cause baby, baby, baby you're out of time
the girl that wants to run away
discovers that she's had her day
it's no good you're thinking that you are still mine
you're out of touch my baby
my poor unfaithful baby
I said, baby, baby, baby you're out of time
well, baby, baby, baby you're out of time
I said, baby, baby, baby you're out of time
yes you are left out
out of there without a doubt
'cause baby, baby, baby, you're out of time
you thought you were a clever girl
giving up your social whirl
but you can't come back and be the first in line, oh no
you're obsolete my baby
my poor old-fashioned baby
I said baby, baby, baby you're out of time
well, baby, baby, baby you're out of time
I said, baby, baby, baby you're out of time
yes, you are left out
out of there without a doubt
'cause baby, baby, baby you're out of time
sing the song....
baby, baby, baby you're out of time
I said baby, baby, baby you're out of time
ahhh... baby, baby, baby you're out of time
you don't know what's going on
you've been away for much too long
but you can't come back and think you are still mine
you're out of touch my baby
my poor discarded baby
I said, baby, baby, baby you're out of time
well, baby, baby, baby you're out of time
I said baby, baby, baby you're out of time
yes you are left out, ah yes you are
I said you're a left a out of there without a doubt
'cause baby, baby, baby you're out of time
allright,
I said baby, baby, baby you're out of time
I said baby,
Not an edit. It's a big shame that the singer messed up this song, for wow, what a great set of musicians working here!
Enjoy the real great guitar work! It may be difficult, but try to ignore the vocals on this one... the idiot sounds like he's drunk...
Not an edit, not necessary, it's of a real great recording quality!
The Fireballs were formed in Raton, New Mexico, in 1957, and got their start as an instrumental group featuring the distinctive lead guitar of George Tomsco.
The song was written and recorded by Tom Paxton. The Fireballs' version reached nr.9 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1967. It also reached nr.3 in South Africa. The song appeared on their 1967 album, with the "surprising" title "Bottle of Wine". It was for six weeks in Holland's Tip Parade, but alas, it didn't chart there, and that with so awfully many many alcoholists in this country ! ! ! (you might expect they would have loved this drunk asshole singing ;-).
The Fireballs, sometimes billed as Jimmy Gilmer (yes, the asshole) and the Fireballs, were an American rock and roll group, particularly popular at the end of the 1950s and in the early 1960s. The original line-up consisted of George Tomsco (lead guitar), Chuck Tharp (vocals), Stan Lark (bass), Eric Budd (drums) and Dan Trammell (rhythm guitar).
Personnel on "Bottle Of Wine" (the single, not the bottle): Jimmy Gilmer (vocals), George Tomsco (lead guitar), Doug Roberts (drums) & Stan Lark (bass).
To cover up the singing I gave you some nice Jugendstil photos, didn't I ?

Edit for headphones, March 3, 2023. A song from the 1969 album "Laughing Cavalier" (a special 1998 release by Magic Records release with 23 songs, catalog number 3930197).
"Daydream" charted #1 in Belgium and also charted in twenty other countries.
DAYDREAM
(David Mackay/Raymond Vincent/Sylveer Van Holmen)
daydream, I fell asleep amid the flowers
for a couple of hours on a beautiful day
daydream, I dreamed of you amid the flowers
for a couple of hours, such a beautiful day
I dreamed of the places I've been with you
how we sat with the stream flowing by
and then when I kissed you and held you so near
tell me why, tell me why you're so shy
daydream, I fell asleep amid the flowers
for a couple of hours on a beautiful day
daydream, come share a dream amid the flowers
for a couple of hours on a beautiful day
I dreamed of the places I've been with you
how we sat with the stream flowing by
and then when I kissed you and held you so near
tell me why, tell me why you're so shy
daydream, I sing with you amid the flowers
for a couple of hours, singing all of the day
(and a 194 times the famous international word "na")

This channel is about my edits for headphones.
Guarantee: I add no sounds, all you hear is the artists' music. I don't "DES" (digitally extract stereo) either.
With « processed 'stereo' » I mean: fake stereo, just to enjoy the music a bit 'better', a bit 'stereo-ish'.
My edits are here for free, I don't earn money with this (it only COSTS me money), so please don't be offended if I play around with sound, it is just my hobby, I have no intention to be a wise guy or smart ass, it's just what I like to do...
These edits are best experienced via headphones... if you want advice:
Sennheiser HD 520 II - I have one and it sounds nearly perfect
Sennheiser HD 580 (Precision) - my wife has one and it sounds perfect
Sennheiser HD 595
Sennheiser HD 600
Sennheiser HD 650 or even... a Sennheiser HD 800 (very expensive)
less expensive and also nearly perfect: a Shure SRH 940.
The latest Sennheiser with a good review by my local newspaper's music specialist is the Sennheiser HD 560 S.
