The Flock enjoys being out of the tractor, scratching here and there to find any bugs they can happen across. For the video, I treated them with mealworms. Even the meat chicks could not resist them. As you can see they hold their own against all the other members of their flock.

A report in the news yesterday from Canada says that Feds showed up on several farms and when confronted said they were testing the water in the ponds. Under Canadian Law the Feds had no authorization to 'test' private property water. That reminded me of the rule the EPA just tried to adopt that gave them the right to manage ALL water--even water on private property. Any way, 3 days after the Fed visits the farmers were told they had to kill their stock due to Anthrax. Bird flu for flocks of chickens that could be part of the food chain in an emergency and Anthrax for larger animals. Either way the Feds want the food supply cut, so IF you have a homestead, take it underground.

With the recent raids on the Amish small-holdings, and a rumor that the Feds want to destroy the food supply, added to the recent chatter that the Feds are going to start claiming that homesteaders have BIRD FLU, and their flocks must be slaughtered, I have decided to homestead underground. The White Leghorns have reached 6 weeks and are such handsome birds. The meat birds are 3 weeks old.

That is why they PUSH interracial breeding, it dumbs down the IQ of WHITES and the GREAT POPULATION REPLACEMENT. After only one day out, all the chicks proved to be ravenous! When given table scraps composed of pork chop bones, chicken bones and the wings no one wanted and a few water melon rinds, they fell on them like a tribe. All of them took part in pecking every bit of meat from the bones, and left the melon rinds as just green skins. This is truly eye opening for people who are looking to cut down on the cost of feed without cutting down on the amount of food the birds eat.

Early this morning ALL the chicks--even those that are only 3 weeks and 4 days old--were released to pasture. Reluctant at first, as you will see they soon settled down to what promises to be a full day of FREE RANGING for bugs, worms, and all the other things that infuse not just their eggs (for the Leghorns) but also their meat (the Cornish Cross--3 weeks and 4 days old--and the heritage breeds--Black Jersey Giants; Red Comets; Domineckers; Plymouth Rocks, and of course the Rhode Island Reds). It is to be hoped that the heritage chickens will produce extra large (or JUMBO) eggs, and in the case of the Domineckers, Plymouth Rocks and Black Jersey Giants, that they will prove to be broody so that the eggs we breed--crossing White Leghorn males with ALL the other hen breeds, and the Black Jersey Giants males (if we got any in our order of straight run chicks) with the White Leghorn hens--will find mothers to hatch them naturally.

Here we have a video of the chicks starting with the older ones (WHITE LEGHORN HENS) at 6 weeks, and the youngest (CORNISH MEAT CHICKS AND JERSEY GIANTS, RHODE ISLAND REDS) at 3 weeks and 3 days. Notice how the Cornish are really growing. They have a lot of growth to go in the next 5 to 6 weeks. Then PROCESSING.

Here you will see in our new video, feeding time for the chicks, notice also that there is actually a time when we gave them live crickets. We put the meat chicks into a different cage, just to see how they would behave, and discovered that they do NOTHING 'chicken'-like at all. They simply lie about. We decided to introduce a few of the Laying hens and almost instantly the meat chicks began to behave like chickens. Please learn this lesson. Remember the meat chicks are 1 week old.

Mixing the month old (White Leghorn hens) and the 3 week old variety (Red Comet, 2 White Leghorn males, 3 Dominecker and 3 Barred Rock hens) with the day old Cornish Cross (27) and Rhode Island hens (3) and Jersey Giants (10). Notice the way all of them are getting along fine. Notice how the smallest settle in with the older birds.

Here is a better view of our chicken tractor. As you can see the week older chicks--the White Leghorn hens have taken the younger chicks (3 Barred Rock hen; 3 Dominecker hens, 2 Red Star hens and the 2 White Leghorn males) under their wings, treating them the way that mother hens treat their babies. There is one moment when one of the White Leg Horn males actually tries out his Rooster attraction skills. I think he will end up being the one we keep to breed more, while the other will go into the freezer.
