(1) the whole thing about God allowing active thieves (and all different kinds of people) into the church based on Ephesians 4:28 is wrong — repentant believers are welcomed into the church — no one else is welcome. Paul is calling the Epheesian church to "put off their old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and then to be renewed in the spirit of your minds" (v22-23).

(2) Andy claimed that Zacchaeus, in giving half of what he owned to the poor, was him being "an anti-thief", which, according to Andy's definition, being an "anti-thief" is a matter of justice, of God's law. Once again we see a confusion of mercy and justice — but in these terms, Andy has explicitly added to God's law, perverted justice, and robbed mercy of its meaning

There is a new kind of humility that we all need to learn, and it is learning that you should not need CRT, because you should already accept its worldview, which is that you (a white person) are ignorant and need to take a posture of listening to black people

Voddie hits the nail on the head! The only meaningful separation between two ethnicities that ever existed was a God-ordained one that has been fixed once for all time and all ethnicities by the blood of Christ for those who are in Christ! Listen to him preach this truth.

Ephesians 2 NKJV

"14 For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, 15 having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, 16 and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity. 17 And He came and preached peace to you who were afar off and to those who were near. 18 For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father."

"us being raised with christ ... ought to have intended consequences such as our unity" - Jared Torrence

I found this to be an odd statement... where in scripture does it say that there are negative consequences, specifically unity, in the truth that we have been raised together in Christ?

[counter point]: "you don’t pursue ethnic harmony by amplifying ethnic divisions. You do it by amplifying the common identity we share in Christ, and the common principles we uphold together from Scripture." - anon

JT makes a good point here. The Jews were wrong to demand new Christians be circumcised. It was compromising to the gospel, suggesting that the gospel was not enough.

So what do we say to those who believe "ethnic harmony" or "ethnic reconciliation" is a "gospel issue"?

Christians gather in churches __today__ and link arms with "those are different than them" to worship Christ.

Why are we acting like this is a reality we are waiting for or working towards?

Again, that is happening today. It has been happening for a long time now. Ever since Jews and Greeks came together in Christ.

There is much more in life that causes differences than mere skin color. Christ trumps all of those differences, big and small, and brings us together in worship of Him.

Why does it feel like we are worshipping the image of different people groups linking arms more than we are worshipping God Himself?

I must say, anger comes quite easily to me when I talk about or think about abortion... which is a political issue as defined by the world

According to God, it is not "political" but it is evil, condemned, and abhorrent

Feeling anger doesn't mean that I am lashing out in anger, speaking harshly, enraged, or inappropriately raising my voice.

It simply means that I am feeling anger, even strong anger. It can be tempered, controlled, and tamed. And it is godly to feel tempered rage against abhorrent evil. Even when the world deems that evil as "political".

"If not Covenant Fellowship, then who?"
Answer: Jesus

"If not now, when?"
Answer: At the end, as Revelation described it

Aside from what Revelation describes, do we not already experience unity across ethnic lines because of Christ? Why are we attempting to undermine what Christ has achieved and pretending we can do it better?

To be honest, I am quite confused. Covenant Fellowship is diverse. What else are we supposed to be accomplishing with regards to "ethnic diversity within the church"? Black, White, Hispanic, and Asian all sing alongside each other and worship the same savior. This is not something to be overlooked. THAT is unity! THAT is harmony!

There seems to be the assumption or observation that there is an ethnic divide in the church that needs to be resolved. Since when?

However, their conclusion is correct; there is a divide, but it is across ideological lines, not ethnic ones. The issues do concern race, diversity, and ethnicity, but each side of the ideological divide is, ironically, ethnically diverse.

The problem isn't a lack of unity, but a lack of truth.

There is an elevation of false issues and false work to the forefront of the church's mission, such as doing the work of creating a multi-ethnic church or doing the work of racial/ethnic reconciliation or harmony. With the elevation of these falsehoods, it can now be said that the church is not "united" because they do not all agree on these issues. The reason there is disagreement is because many in the church see these falsehoods as they are, but many have been deceived. And now, their deception is being encouraged and sealed by the pastors.

There is only one that matters in the church: Christ. We elevate Him above all and preach Him and His whole counsel. We are elevating falsehoods such as "police brutality" and "systemic racism" without batting an eye to whether or not they are true.

Is this really how Jesus approached sinners? He was merciful and kind, but did not avoid telling sinners about their sinfulness. He said "go and sin no more".
