Welcome to the video series "WW2 Bunker Build" here on the WWII History & Reenacting YouTube channel. This is a very interesting, educational and fun project. We are building a typical German wooden bunker from the second world war using original drawings and correct materials. This particular construction is not supposed to be under ground, but was a special type used in marsh lands or areas with shallow bedrock - typical for Finland etc. Follow us as we put in the hard work, and watch the build from start to finish - link to the complete playlist below.

Today's WW2 Relic of the week is a wonderful German WW2 Navy uniform button. The button features the embossed Kriegsmarine (Navy) anchor with a pebbled background and raised outer rim. This style of button was used on the field gray Navy uniform, generally by land based personnel such as the coastal artillery (Küstenartillerie). This button is in fairly good condition with the button shank still intact.

This cold winter adventure takes us on a long and treacherous three day journey to north of Norway. I recently picked up another 5 original German field kitchens from WW2. Four large German model Hf. 13 field kitchens - two are of the later variant with additional roasting compartment, and the other two are the early regular type. I also found one regular small German model Hf.14 field kitchen. I definitely should have picked this up in the summer!

Today's WW2 Relic of the week is a wonderful hoard of complete tablet containers with skin decontamination tablets for the German Wehrmacht. These are made from Bakelite and still contains the original contents. They are missing most of the paper instruction label.

BACKGROUND:
With the development of poisonous gasses used as offensive weapons in WWI appropriate defensive gasmasks also had to be developed. The German WWI M1915 and M1917 gasmasks evolved into the Reichswehr era M24 gasmask and eventually into the M30 and M38 gasmasks used in WWII. All German Army personnel were issued with a gasmask, carrying canister and accessories and were required to have it readily available at all times. Although the use of chemical warfare agents was considered by the German OKW, (High Command of the Armed Forces), fear of the Allies retribution forced them to reconsider and shelf the idea. Fear of the potential use of chemical warfare agents made the gasmask and canister a constant companion of the German soldier through-out the war. Along with the gasmasks, new specialized eye glasses, a protective gas cape and skin decontamination tablets, were also developed. Each soldiers was issued four skin decontamination tablet containers with ten tablets per container along with their gasmask and other accessories. The skin decontamination tablets required preparation in water before usage and as a result a new skin decontamination ointment, which didn’t require preparation was introduced to replace the tablets but the changeover was never fully achieved and the tablets continued to be produced and issued until 1943. Regulations of December 3RD 1942 stipulated that a colored adhesive tape was to be applied to the skin decontamination tablet containers to indicate year of production with red tape indicating production up to 1940, black tape for 1941, light green tape for 1942 and yellow tape for 1943.

Today's WW2 Relic of the week is a German Wehrmacht soldiers dog tag (Erkennungsmarke) that has been broken in half. Weather or not the state of the broken tab is accidental or not I don't know - it is possibly the individual was K in an accident or due to natural causes, as there was no fighting anywhere in this area. I know that there was a mine accident in this area sometime in 1944 where several soldiers were K. The soldiers number was 777 (blood type A), and he was issued his tag in "1.Kp Landesschützen-Bataillon B" (1.Kp. LDS.SCHTZ.BTL. B).

German field kitchens from the second world war are quite rare, and finding one for sale could take years - but I never imagined in a million years that I would one day acquire one while asleep... This is the story about how I acquired my third German field kitchen...

Welcome to the "WWII History & Reenacting" YouTube channel!
The main focus of this channel is primarily military history, mainly within the second world war (WW2) timeframe. The channel features various content, such as videos on metal detecting, magnet fishing, exploring and visiting historical sites, collecting militaria, reenactment, restoration etc. I'm a WW2 reenactor/living history enthusiast and many of my videos feature tutorials, kit reviews, reenactment footage and information about the hobby. I mainly portray the German side within the timeframe. Collecting militaria is a huge part of my life. Unboxing videos, collectible presentations, and collecting tips, as well as metal detecting and relic hunting are also typical videos on the channel.
