On Today's Bold Words, I go over writing goals for September, read a bit of "Monsters: A literary siting", and dissect "Do you have to be one to write about one?: Writing About Others" by Ian King, an article found in the September 2018 issue of "The Writer's Chronicle" magazine.

This week, of course, there's "Why Didn't They Finish" followed by an article from NYT about "Sensitivity Readers" to pick through books for anything deemed 'wrongthink' or 'wrong representation' and to sanitize the crap out of them and what this does to novels and the thinking population.

This week I read one of the strangest, not good stories I've ever read in a published book and talk about the tips I got at a writing conference I went to last weekend. Authenticity, vulnerability, and networking were all repeated concepts.

This week I talk about "The Power" by Naomi Alderman (A NYT Beste Book of 2017), Women in Power, Corruption, and the #MeToo movement. Incredible enough, while recording this, the Aziz Ansari controversy came out as an excellent example of a woman reaching for power and feminists attempting to harness #MeToo as a whip against men.

Because I'm trying something new and forcing myself to learn some new trades. Hopefully, the more I record, the more tips and tricks of better quality I'll learn... This is without the higher quality audio from my mic because... they wouldn't merge... Anyway. Some thoughts and a book reading.

Ian Kirkpatrick, creative writer for fiction and nonfiction, writes novels, short stories, and cultural critique pieces on her website "Bold Words." She received a Bachelors Degree in Theater from The University of Alaska Anchorage in 2013 and a Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the University of Tampa in 2016.

As a conservative in a left-leaning industry, it can be pretty maddening to quietly say nothing and nod your head just to get along. It also doesn’t do anything to maintain moral values. She started this blog to speak back, give an alternative voice in writing, and hopefully make some kind of difference. She’s an American, a constitutionalist, and an advocate for free speech.

She enjoys writing fiction and loves exploring the world and its absurdities through the creation of fiction. She has a darker sense of humor and a penchant for truth. She’s doing the best she can to figure out the world around her while.

She has written one novel and is currently seeking representation and publication for it. She has started working on her second novel and has a handful of short stories. She looks forward to writing more but looks way more forward to the day she can write as her day job. ?

And hopefully, you’ll get to read some of that in the near future. We can only hope at this point.
