This episode is all about getting touch with your opponent... SO YOU CAN PUNCH HIM IN HIS FACE! All Martial Arts are concerned with two things: striking an enemy while simultaneously preventing that enemy from striking you. There are as many ways to go about accomplishing this as there are individual Styles of Martial Arts. As a Mid to Short Range Style, Xingyiquan favors a set of techniques for making, maintaining, & taking advantage of contact between you & your opponent.

This episode is all about the Ethical aspect of practicing Martial Arts. The Triple Alliance of Volcano Hands Uncle Sickness, Metaphysical Polemarch YogaMidnight, & Human Calamity Maeko compare Martial Ethics & the Code of the Xia. "But Uncle," you say, "I have no idea what any of that means!! I don't own a Sickness Kung Fu Hoodie!" Allow me to explain. Today, students are taught a set of virtues influenced by Confucian social norms referred to as "武德/Wu De - Martial Ethics". It consists of two sets of virtues: one outlining the etiquette for interacting with other Martial Artists, the other outlining a method of cultivating one's character. In contrast, the wandering Heroes of Martial Arts fiction followed a different set of principles, known as the Code of the Xia. These are two very different sets of values, formed by two almost diametrically opposed viewpoints. Martial Ethics are intended to shape Martial Artists into well rounded members of society, while the Code of the Xia lays out a way of life built around individual expression. Which will you choose: fulfilling your duty to society, or walking your own path?

Baguazhang is a mystery to many people today. One of the last Classical Styles to be created in the late Qing Dynasty by the legendary Master Dong Haichuan; the youngest of the Big Three Internal Styles; famed for its complexity & beauty; feared for its inscrutability & power. And, unjustly, considered a fraud by many of the "practical" martial artists of today. It certainly doesn't help that most of the people demonstrating Baguazhang today are... less than impressive physical examples. Like Taijiquan before it, Baguazhang has suffered under the Soy drenched reputations of New Age, Spiritual-minded "teachers". In this episode, "Mr Ruthless" Uncle Sickness, "Metaphysical Polemarch" YogaMidnight, & "Human Calamity" Maeko explore, in a rambling fashion, the strong points, specialties, & personalities of this fascinating masterwork that stands as the peak of Martial Arts creativity.
