This 16-minute short film was the first motion picture adaptation of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. The unbilled cast included Augustus Phillips as Dr. Frankenstein, Charles Ogle as Frankenstein's monster, and Mary Fuller as the doctor's fiancée.
In making the film the Edison Co. has carefully tried to eliminate all actual repulsive situations and to concentrate its endeavors upon the mystic and psychological problems that are to be found in this weird tale. Whenever, therefore, the film differs from the original story it is purely with the idea of elimination what would be repulsive to a moving picture audience.
Frankenstein was among the earlier silent films to have an associated cue sheet, providing suggested musical accompaniment.[7] From the cue sheet:[8][9]

Till monster appears over bed: Dramatic music from "Der Freischütz"
Till father and girl in sitting room: Moderato

Much of the movie's plot is inspired by Phantom Manor, the version of the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland Resort Paris. Unlike the Haunted Mansions in the other parks, Phantom Manor has a clear storyline of a bride, her lost lover, and her haunting the mansion.
The chairs in the dining room were later added to both the Disneyland Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean attractions. In the Haunted Mansion, the chair appears in a portrait of the updated attic, belonging to one of the bride's murdered husbands. In both the updated versions of the Disneyland and Magic Kingdom Pirates attractions, it is in the final treasure room scene as the chair Captain Jack Sparrow is sitting in.
The Dapper Dans, a barbershop quartet that performs in Disneyland's Main Street USA, make a special appearance as the voices of the singing busts.
Following the massive success of Ghostbusters (1984), Disney green-lit the film in the mid 1980s. At first, they would only give permission for the film to be made if Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, or Rick Moranis would play the lead role.
Marsha Thomason was 27. Her character had a 13-year-old daughter and a 10-year-old son.
The Hitchhiking Ghosts were more prominent in early drafts of the script, but were trimmed back because it became too overwhelming to have three supporting characters chiming in all the time.
The Gracey family that haunts the Haunted Mansion is named for Yale Gracey, one of the original Imagineers (Disney designers) of the Disneyland ride, which opened in 1969. Although a ghostly Gracey is never officially named in the ride narration or press, the name has long been associated with the disembodied "Ghost Host" in the attraction through fans' speculated narratives (contrary to popular belief, the ride does not have a definite story).
Stars: Christopher Lee, Dennis Waterman, Jenny Hanley, Patrick Troughton

Trivia
Neither Warner Brothers nor any of the other American major studios wanted to deal with Sir James Carreras, Founding Chairman of Hammer Film Productions anymore, so the budgets were cut to two hundred thousand dollars as the decline in Hammer movies had begun with the loss of large-scale American distribution.
This is Michael Ripper's third consecutive appearance in a Hammer "Dracula" film, given that he previously played Max in Dracula Has Risen from the Grave (1968) and Inspector Cobb in Taste the Blood of Dracula (1970). He is the only actor other than Christopher Lee to appear in all three films. He also played a coachman in The Brides of Dracula (1960), in which Lee did not appear.
John Forbes-Robertson was considered for the role of Dracula before Christopher Lee was persuaded to return. Forbes-Robertson later played Dracula in The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires (1974), the only Hammer film to feature an actor other than Lee in the role.

Trivia
Debut cinema movie of actress Adrienne Barbeau.
Although this was essentially a low budget independent movie, John Carpenter chose to shoot the movie in anamorphic widescreen Panavision. This decision gave the movie a grander feel for the viewer so this didn't seem like a low budget horror movie.
Adrienne Barbeau patterned her voice after Alison Steele, who was a female disc jockey from the 1960s who was known as the Nightbird.
After a rough cut of this movie appeared to be much too short for a theatrical release (about 80 minutes), John Carpenter subsequently added more scenes. Among these was the prologue with the elderly captain telling ghost stories to fascinated children by a campfire.
John Carpenter has stated two inspirations for the film, both of which are related to Great Britain. The first was the British film The Crawling Eye (1958) which dealt with monsters hiding in the clouds. He also stated that he and his co-writer/producer, Debra Hill, were inspired by a trip to Stonehenge, the ancient monument in South West England, which was covered in fog during their visit.
While driving to the lighthouse, Stevie flips around the radio dial, and a broadcast confirming a search for the ship the "Sea Grass" is heard. The voice mentions "a sweep south of Waitely Point and Arkham Reef". Both Arkham Reef and the surname "Waitely" are references to writer H.P. Lovecraft, as he used both repeatedly in his stories. Carpenter is an admitted huge fan of Lovecraft.
