Serenade for Strings in E flat major, Op. 6 by Josef Suk

Suk would complete this serenade for string orchestra in 1892, with the first public performance being given in February of 1895 at the Prague Conservatory. At the time, Suk was studying under Antonín Dvořák at the conservatory, and it was a suggestion of Dvořák that Suk attempt a composition that was lighter in both tone and complexity. It was a fortuitous suggestion, as the work which Suk eventually wrote was well received at the premiere, and would be endorsed by Johannes Brahms for publication.

This work is comprised of four movements:
I. Andante con moto
II. Allegro ma non troppo e grazioso
III. Adagio
IV. Allegro giocoso, ma non troppo presto
