Vaughn de Leath: Crazy Words-Crazy Tune (Vo-Do-De-O) (1927)
The recording on the other side of this disc: SINCE I FOUND YOU.
Crazy Words was an extremely popular song in the 1920s and later and was recorded by an army of different artists over the years. There are also some different lyrical variations. The song itself is as quintessential 1920s as the Charleston and Black Bottom (the latter receiving a nod in this song). Here's a list of all the lyric variations and performers: https://www.lyricsplayground.com/alpha/songs/c/crazywordscrazytune.html
The lyrics as recorded by VAUGHAN DE LEATH:
Ha-ha-ha-ha, oh, there's a man I'd like to kill
And if he doesn't stop, I will
Got a ukulele and a voice that's loud and shrill
'Cause he lives next door to me
And he keeps me up till three
With his ukulele and a funny melody
Crazy words, crazy tune
All that you ever hear him croon
Is vo-doe-de-o, vo-doe-doe-de-o-doe
Vo-doe-doe
Sits around all night long
Sings the same words to every song
Vo-doe-de-o, vo-doe-doe-de-o-doe
His ukulele, daily
How he'll strum, bom-bom-bom
Vampin' and stampin'
And then he hollers, "Black bottom!"
Crazy words, crazy tune
He'll be driving me crazy soon
Vo-doe-de-o, vo-doe-doe-de-o-doe
Napoleon marched his men
He turned around and he said to them
Vo-doe-de-o, vo-doe-doe-de-o-doe
Vo-doe-doe
And Washington at Valley Forge
It was bitter cold when up spoke George
Vo-doe-de-o, vo-doe-doe-de-o-doe
And do you remember Patrick Henry
Patrick Henry and that speech, that wonderful speech
When he cried, "Give me, give me liberty or black bottom!"
Take Charlie Chaplin the other day
What did he say to Lita Grey?
Ah, vo-doe-de-o, vo-doe-doe-de-o-doe
He keeps it up both night and day
Even hollers out "Hey-Hey!"
And ev'ry time I hear it
I holler out "No-No!"
And the worst I haven't told
I have heard it, so I am told
And I started singing that voe-doe-doe-doe-doe
Crazy words, crazy tune
All that you ever hear him croon
Is (Vo-doe-de-o, vo-doe-doe-de-o-doe), ah, isn't that cute
Vo-doe-doe
Sits around all night long
Sings the same words to every song
(Vo-doe-de-o, vo-doe-doe-de-o-doe) Attaboy!
His ukulele, daily
How he'll strum, bom-bom-bom
Vampin' and stampin'
And then he hollers, "Black bottom!"
Crazy words, crazy tune
He'll be driving me crazy soon
(Vo-doe-de-o, vo-doe-doe-de-o-doe)
Take Paul Revere on that midnight ride
Jumped on a horse and loudly cried
"Vo-doe-de-o, vo-doe-doe-de-o-doe"
Mark Anthony, way back then
Said "Friends, Romans and Countrymen
Vo-doe-de-o, vo-doe-doe-de-o-doe"
And in the Great War, that late war
Mid shot and shell there came a yell
Let's go boys, you doughboys
Give 'em, give 'em Black Bottom
I've sung so much of this to you
I bet that you'll be singing too
Vo-doe-de-o, vo-doe-doe-de-o-doe
