I know this film is long [4 hours] but it is well worth the watch. You'll get the gist in the first 20 minutes. To put it short this documentary basically shines light on how Sigmund Freud’s nephew Edward Bernays , capitalized off of his uncle’s philosophies and created modern day 'consumerism'.

After watching this one, it should become all the more clearer as to why and how the world continues to operate the way it does today
