The lady was deaf, and entered an elevator for the first time. Obviously she did not know how to operate it and apparently got scared and wanted to get out.

Her solution left her stuck in the elevator shaft. Had someone else summoned the elevator before they knew she was there and got her out she would have been killed. They had to destroy the elevator shaft to rescue her. Somehow she survived.
