Mozart completed this concerto in 1785, with the premier performance being held at the Mehlgrube Casino in Vienna in February of the same year. Mozart himself performed for the premiere.

Contemporary composers such as Beethoven and Brahms considered the work profound, so much so they wrote soloist passages as a personal addition to the original work by Mozart.

This concerto is comprised of three movements:
I. Allegro 00:00
II. Romanze 14:35
III. Rondo, Allegro assai 24:00
