Wendy's classic ad from 1984 - Soviet Fashion Show. One of the greatest 80's cold war commercials.

The "Soviet Fashion Show" in this commercial is intended to symbolize McDonalds (The ultimate icon of American capitalism). In commercials for Wendy's it was a recurring theme that McDonald's made its hamburgers by a mechanized "assembly line" process, and everything tasted the same. Wendy's burgers were individually made to order, "the old-fashioned way".

Keep in mind that there are many more butterball shaped women in the good 'ole USA than in the former USSR. The irony is that many top-models in the fashion business are Russian.

It has been said that the commercial was pulled at the request of the Soviet government. They argued that it was not in the best interest of Perestroika.
