On Sunday, Purdue Pharma, the maker of the drug OxyContin, filed for bankruptcy as part of an agreement framework for settling lawsuits the company faces. Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family have been a major focus of blame for the opioid epidemic by allegedly denying or downplaying the addiction risk while overstating the benefits of opioids. The opioid crisis has led to close to 400,000 deaths from overdoses, including both illicit and prescription abuse.
