With a modern, attractive if rather clinical design this diffuser from meross offers a real advance from the traditional models both in features and looks. But it is not all as good as it seems.
The device is very nicely presented and has an upmarket, quality feel to it which belies the £17.99 price. In the box was the humidifier essential oil burner itself, two water filters, a non-standard USB power cable and a well written and easy to read user guide. Build quality throughout once again feel upmarket and this device certainly does not feel like a budget-priced product.
Although the unit can be used as conventional one with the simple On/Off button on the top, the reason most users would want this model is to take advantage of the remote control and Alexa/Google Home integration. To this end, the meross app has to be first downloaded to your phone and a meross account opened. You can then use the app to walk through configuring the device on your home network and with Alexa or Google. This is a straightforward process and takes around five minutes. When this is done you can use the app to turn the device off and on, control the humidifier output from continuous to intermittent or off, turn the device LED off or on. setup up the device as part of a routine with other devices or on a timer. Here is where the bad news starts. Here in the UK, only limited Alexa control is possible, in fact, all you can do is turn it off and on, to do more your Alexa system needs to be registered with the USA not UK Amazon servers - not hard to do but not without possible problems.
In use, the device works well, puffs out a good amount of steam and is almost silent in operation. It is USB powered but be aware that it comes with no USB power adaptor and uses a non-standard cable. Of course, USB adaptors are widely available and unless you lose the cable the strange plug will be no problem. On the good side, a spare water filter is included in the box.
This humidifier or oil aromatherapy oil burner is well priced, well made and works well. However here in the UK only a limited range of features can be controlled by voice, one of the main selling points of the device.
