Suite for String Quartet by George Butterworth

British composer George Butterworth likely began this short work for string quartet in 1910 and continued to contribute to the score in 1911, but would not finish the work before his death in 1916 at the battle of the Somme. Butterworth had developed a friendship with fellow composer Frank Bridge, with the possibility that this work was intended for Bridge to perform with the English String Quartet.

In the structure that Butterworth left the quartet in, there are five movements:
I. Andante con moto, molto espressivo
II. Scherzando, non allegro
III. Allegro molto
IV. Molto moderato ed espressivo
V. Moderato
