A Labour council now allows new UK citizens from different faiths or cultures to refuse to shake hands with British female officials during their citizenship ceremony.

'You sign up to British values for citizenship, and refusing to shake a woman's hand doesn't respect those values'

An information request revealed that this was implemented when Labour took over the council in May 2023, and was not implemented while under Conservative control.
