"Three Orchestral Pieces from La damnation de Faust by Hector Berlioz

Berlioz completed his Opera/Choral fantasy ‘The Damnation of Faust’ in 1845, with the premiere performance being given in December of 1846 at the Opéra-Comique in Paris. The work is based on the poem ‘Faust’ by the German poet Goethe.

The work was only moderately successful, partially to composition being an unusual mix of opera and choral symphony. Berlioz adapted the instrumental interludes of the work in his “Three Orchestral Pieces from La damnation de Faust.

The adaptation is comprised of three sections:
I. Hungarian March
II. Sylph Ballet
III. Leprechaun’s minuet
