The spring thaw came early this year, and as a result of the melting ice and snow, what was a tiny brook running along our property has now become a raging torrent.
Snowdrops have appeared and the crocus and daffodil bulbs we planted last fall won't be far behind.
Although we weren't quick enough to get a pic, we have already spotted a few robins in the neighborhood.
Egg production is increasing as the days grow longer and the hens are able to get outside to peck and scratch the ground.
We enjoy having the brook running alongside our property. Because it is much lower than our house, there is no danger of damage from high water.
As the snow melts, small green plants show themselves with the promise of strawberries and flowers to come.
The insects haven't yet arrived, but when they do, the brook trout won't be far behind. The brook provides water for the birds and the wildlife. And the dog always has a place to go for a nice cool drink.
The wind is cold and the trees are still bare. The calendar says we have less than 3 weeks until the Spring Equinox, but the signs of spring are already starting to show.
