Swastika [1973 documentary by Philippe Mora | Rare home footage of Hitler and 1930s Germany]
During the original screening of "Swastika" at the 1973 Cannes film festival, a number of people in attendance—presumably all wearing small hats—had a legitimate mental breakdown while viewing the film. Apparently angry at the accurate portrayal of Adolph Hitler, fights broke out among many in attendance. At one point, a chair was thrown at the screen.
This fiasco was an early example of the intolerance regarding White-sympathetic viewpoints among the far-left and Jewish community, mainly as a result of them simply being factual.
The chaos would ensue primarily because the film appeared to be honest in humanising Adolf Hitler and his inner circle. “All hell broke loose,” says the film’s Australian-born, Los Angeles-based director Phillipe Mora. “There were eruptions all through the theatre. Finally they stopped the film and a French guy came out, looking like a head waiter and said, ‘Ladies and gentlemen, this is the Cannes film festival, not a beer hall.”
While the film's director provided an honest and accurate description of the situation, the ever-imaginative Jews in attendance would attempt to re-write and fictionalize what took place—an act we are all too familiar with from these guys. One Jew in attendance claimed he was attacked by a group of "Nazis" sporting swastika tattoos. In a seperate over-the-top account, another Jewish man claimed a group of "White supremacists" hurled "anti-Semitic" slogans at him before powerbombing him through the announcer's table. In a highly sensational article about the event, released by a left-wing Jewish publication, the author wrote, "During one point, the film stopped airing completely. The entire theatre became pitch black. Without warning, WWF wrestler 'The Undertaker' appeared in the corner of the theatre and began approaching the attendees while his trademark theme song played in the background. As he neared closer to me, he became aware of my ethnic heritage after spotting the tattoo I had received on my arm during my 16th trip to Auschwitz. The WWF star became enraged, screaming 'Sieg Heil!" and yanked me toward him before subjecting me to his finishing move: the 'Tombstone' piledriver."
With all the controversy surrounding the initial screening of the film, elite censorship made viewing or obtaining a copy of the film incredibly difficult. Therefore, it's no surprise that this amazing documentary remains as criminally unseen and unknown as it is, even among those within dissident spheres. It consists of never-seen-before colour footage, shot mostly by Hitler’s future wife Eva Braun, that shows "the personification of evil" cuddling his dog, playing with children and discussing “Gone with the Wind.”
The film reveals the opening credits with a unique and cool-for-it's-time animation of a swastika spinning through space. When the swastika vanishes, we remain in space looking down at the Earth. As our view gradually pans closer, the details of the Earth's surface become more visible. We eventually reach the European continent, then the country of Germany. Our first stop in Germany is the city of Berlin. From here we begin our stunning glimpse—free of anti-White propaganda—into what life was truly like on German soil from 1933 through 1939 during Hitler's National Socialist reign.
