PERSPECTIVES WITH ANTHONY WEBBER 7th OCTOBER 2022
Anthony ( Tony) Webber is a political strategist and campaigner, a commentator, broadcaster, public speaker and writer.
He is a former Independent Member of the Guernsey Parliament ( 1991-2004), well known for standing up on important issues.
He has wide business management and financial experience. He currently runs his own business and political advisory company.
He successfully assisted both the Better Together campaign in Scotland in 2014 and the Leave EU campaign in 2016.
He also assisted Scotland In Union and pro-UK candidates in Scotland in the 2015 General Election.
He is also a Crown Dependencies’ and British Overseas’ Territories commentator, and led the Privy Council Petition of the Crown Dependencies to vote in the UK EU Referendum.
He attends the party political conferences, takes part in TV and radio commentary and debate, and writes on current political events.
He works across the British Islands and further afield, and has wide political contacts.
He comes from a military family, his late father, a Guernseyman, being a former Colonel in the Royal Signals, and he was born abroad, spending his early life in different parts of the world. His late Mother, from Barnet, met his Father when they were both serving in the Army in the Second World War. He believes in public service as a duty.
He started his career in stockbroking, developing into working for blue chip companies in the UK, and then merchant banking and financial services.
At the same time as working, he was also an elected Member of the States of Guernsey, as well as being engaged in numerous other public service commitments in the charity, sporting and cultural fields.
He was founding Chairman of the Guernsey and Jersey Hope charity ( Wessex Medical Trust), former Vice Chairman of the Guernsey Sports Council and Hockey Club, former Hockey correspondent of the Guernsey Press, former Chairman of the Guernsey Environmental Council. He also had involvement with many other community, and political issues.
He was Chairman of the Guernsey Falklands Appeal during the Falklands crisis and a member of the original Save St. James committee, which successfully transformed a former large Church into a major concert and meeting venue.
He is a member of a number of professional business organisations.
He has been previously a Board Member of the Channel Islands Co-operative Society and the former Guernsey Telecoms.
He is divorced and a father of six children and three grandchildren.
He became interested in politics when at school in Guernsey and went on to become a graduate of Politics and Government.
He was elected onto his student union executive and was Chairman of the Hockey and Tennis Clubs.
He was also Junior Under Officer in the University of London Officer Training Corps and passed his platoon commanders course at Warminster School of Infantry. He served in the Territorial Army for four years.
