U.S. ARMY Gripen Fighter-Bomber for Fighter-In-A-Box (FINAB) and Short-Ramp-Take-Off (SRATO)
The U.S. ARMY Needs the Gripen Fighter-Bomber for Fighter-In-A-Box (FINAB) and Short-Ramp-Take-Off (SRATO) Operations to Avoid being Destroyed-On-The-Ground (DOTGed) and have Close and Maneuver Air Support (CMAS).
SAAB writes:
720-degree, non-linear War is inherently unpredictable.
Some parts of society won't work the way we're used to.
Our permanent air bases quickly become main targets.
Logistics is absolutely crucial in that situation.
We have the ability to spread out.
The Grip in is unique in that aspect.
In the Swedish BAS90 system, this is a tradition that goes back decades.
Our ability to operate with minimal resources spread out across the country to get off the ground and have effect in the air
The ability to move quickly between different dispersed bases makes you unpredictable.
What makes the Swedish Grip in system unique is that we're able to do this and sustain it for a long time.
We can refuel or change armaments extremely quickly.
By winning the fight for the decision cycle, being faster than our opponent, we can gain tactical superiority, both in the air and on the ground.
By using a road base system with fast response times, we can shift to outnumber an opponent with more aircraft than us.
Being superior in numbers is a great advantage.
Being able to replace the engine in an hour, out in the field by a road, which is downright impossible with other aircraft, it requires smart engineering design.
From the landing gear dimensions to whether you need a ladder for the pilot, fine-tuning to maximize capability.
That's one of the strengths of the Grip in system, its high availability.
It looks like a just a regular road, but minutes later, it’s a key part of air operations.
You land out in the woods.
Bad weather, strong winds.
5 people get out, get everything ready, reload and take off again, ready to protect the country.
The entire process can be done in just 15 minutes.
It's the only system that is developed specifically for dispersed operations.
We have practised this for decades.
It's binary, either we can't fly because there are no airfields, or we have the Grip in system that can operate from roads anywhere in the country, so that we can spread out.
It gives us endurance to withstand extensive attacks.
Again and again and again, day after day.
No one else is capable of that.
