I am up to the Woody Guthrie chapter in Jim Bower's recent book about Phil Ochs:

Jim discusses Phil's sadness and anger at been excluded from the Woody Guthrie memorial concerts in 1968/1970. You can even listen to a snippet of Phil's own words here:

Phil thought himself one of Woody Guthrie's most faithful 'children', so the hurt caused by his exclusion is understandable.

Weird that the Guthrie estate is still trying to enforce copyright when Woody passed in 1967 and this was his view on copyright:

"This song is Copyrighted in U.S., under Seal of Copyright #154085, for a period of 28 years, and anybody caught singin' it without our permission, will be mighty good friends of ourn, cause we don't give a dern. Publish it. Write it. Sing it. Swing to it. Yodel it. We wrote it, that's all we wanted to do."
