HostGator is an American web hosting company based out of Houston, Texas. HostGator was founded by Brent Oxley in October 2002. Brent was going to college at Florida Atlantic University when he founded HostGator. The company started gaining serious traction within a few years and 200,000+ domains were registered by 2006. HostGator was growing quickly and needed a bigger office so the company moved from Florida to Texas in 2007. HostGator was ranked #21 in Inc. Magazine in 2008 as one of the fastest growing businesses in the USA. In 2011 HostGator expanded its web hosting operations to India by adding an office and data center in the country. HostGator got acquired by Endurance International Group (EIG) for USD $225 million in 2012. In June 2012, Brent the founder of HostGator told his employees and users about the sale of HostGator to EIG. Brent told them he would still be around because he owned the buildings, wanted to go travel the world before having kids, and thought Endurance (EIG) could help create more stable billing for HostGator customers. In 2013, HostGator reached the milestone of registering over 9,000,000 domains and having 400,000 paying customers. As of 2018, HostGator is hosting over 1,300,000 sites.
